ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Heritage of Pride, Inc. (HOP) d/b/a NYC Pride is a nonprofit organization that plans and produces New York City's official LGBTQIA+ Pride events each year to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969 — the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement. Heritage of Pride works toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law. We do this by producing LGBTQIA+ Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community. In addition, HOP plays an important role as an advocate and representative of the ever evolving LGBTQIA+ community. With events that focus on a range of goals from inspiring joy to elevating education and equity, we use the proceeds from sponsored and paid events to run programming that further serves the community, such as Youth Pride.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Executive Board with direct supervision from the Co-Chairs, the Executive Director is the key staff management leader of Heritage of Pride and will be responsible for championing and elevating the organization's brand and structure to increase organizational impact in the community. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Executive Board, staff, and membership of HOP to ensure that the organization's operations, fundraising, marketing, communications, human resources, technology, and event strategies are effectively implemented, and continue to serve the changing needs of our diverse LGBTQIA+ community, through HOP's annual LGBTQIA+ Pride festivities in Manhattan.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Organizational Strategy and Leadership
- In collaboration with the Board, staff, and members, design HOP's strategic vision and plan and oversee its implementation of strategy and cultural development. Lead with unimpeachable integrity every day
- Serve as a true culture builder and carrier; help HOP define and realize its optimal culture tied to its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, anti-racism, gender justice and disability justice
- Oversee all day-to-day operations (including program, fundraising, events, communications, facilities management) and staff, with ultimate accountability for the success of the organization
- In partnership with the Executive Board, formulate the budget and provide outstanding leadership and financial management to significantly grow the HOP organization internally as well as its external effectiveness
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing and diverse team staff of eight full-time staff, several seasonal team members and a couple of contractor; recognizing staffing needs and holding team members accountable for achieving ambitious goals and ensuring they have opportunities for growth and development
- Understand the differing roles of membership, Executive Board, and staff, and create an environment that recognizes the importance of each of these segments of HOP
- Foster and develop a healthy internal culture, serve as an example for inclusive leadership, champion a safe working space, and systematize processes in partnership with human resources consultants to develop and maintain staff policies and procedures, including an Employee Handbook
External Presence and Fundraising
- Oversee the enhancement of HOP's public image by being active and visible in the community, fostering relationships with community leaders, and by working closely with other nonprofits, professional and governmental organizations, and sponsors/partners in collaboration with the Partnerships Manager. - Experience with New York City agencies preferred.
- Market and brand the organization to heighten its profile and influence and raise funds to support its mission
- Work with the Associate Director of Events and event directors to strategically plan how to continue to grow HOP's internationally renowned events.
- Partner with the Development Director to develop and maintain a plan for diversification of revenue streams; Develop and maintain successful relationships with a variety of funders, including corporate, foundation and individual major gift prospects
- Fundraise sufficient revenues to achieve the multi-million dollar operation that carries out HOP's mission; maintain the fiscal integrity of the organization, working closely and collaboratively with the organization's Treasurer
- Maintain the fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
- Communicate effectively with the Executive Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Executive Board to function properly and to make informed decisions
- As a designee of the Co-Chairs, be prepared to serve as one of HOP's primary spokespersons with constituents, partners, the media, and the general public
- Implement Board policies, goals and objectives, in conjunction with the Co-Chairs, Officers, and Executive Board, in alignment with governance and by-laws
- Expand Board diversity and effectiveness by assisting in identifying, recruiting and developing new Board members
- At least 10 years' experience in nonprofit leadership, including experience building and leading teams and guiding team members' growth and development
- An unwavering commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an ability to serve as an exemplar for the organization's values and foster an inclusive and respectful workplace
- An authentic and clear passion for HOP's mission
- Strong managerial and financial skills with significant experience leading strategic and operational planning and budgeting
- Experience leading or collaborating with a Board of Directors
- Skills and success in raising funds from a variety of sources including foundations, corporate and individual major donors
- Superb written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating effectively in one on one and large group settings
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a track record of building strong relationships cross-functionally and externally; existing relationships with or knowledge of other LGBTQIA+ organizations is a plus
- Ability to create and maintain a collegial and positive work environment with high morale, professional standards, and productivity
- Meticulous organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain robust systems and processes
- Leadership experience; takes initiative and has the ability to work independently
- Emotional maturity and agility in working in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in various productivity platforms, online services, and databases, including Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Dropbox, Eventbrite (or similar), Salesforce (or similar)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The work requires moderate physical exertion, including: bending, kneeling, stooping/standing, and lifting/moving heavy objects.
The work requires some travel to conference, partner, and sponsor locations. During the execution of the HOP events, you will be expected to be onsite and often expected to perform the job outdoors. The work entails some exposure to cold, heat, varied weather conditions, and excessive noise and vibration.
This position often entails high pressure. Frequent evening and weekend work required, particularly in the lead up to Pride season and during HOP's events. Some holiday work and work from home may be required. Regular attendance at organizational meetings and events is required.
