About the Office:

The Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) advises the Mayor of the City of New York on criminal justice policy. MOCJ develops and implements strategies, with partners inside and outside government, to reduce crime and incarceration and to promote fairness and legitimacy. MOCJ works with law enforcement, city agencies, non-profits, foundations, and others to implement data-driven strategies that address current crime conditions, prevent offending, and build the strong neighborhoods that ensure enduring safety.

 

About the Role:

The Grants Director, under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO), oversees the administration of MOCJ’s State and Federal grants portfolio, and supervises MOCJ’s grant managers.

 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Hiring, training, professional development, and direct supervision of 2-3 senior grant managers to ensure the consistent negotiation and review of all reimbursement requests for appropriateness and compliance with established MOUs, contracts, and administrative financial policies and procedures.
  • Develops systems and processes to facilitate consistent grant management and tracking across MOCJ’s grants portfolio. Manages organization of grant documentation to track progress of grant spending, claiming, and project completion.
  • Oversees the execution of all facets of MOCJ’s grant process, including applications, coordinating with grantors and sub-recipients to ensure timely claiming, monitoring awards, tracking expenditures, retaining audit-ready documentation, and regularly reporting to various funding authorities.
  • Provides regular reporting to upper management.
  • Works closely with Budget, Fiscal, and Procurement staff to track grant related spending to allow for the timely processing of revenue recognition documents in the City’s financial management system. Coordinates with agencies and stakeholders, including the Comptroller, Office of Management and Budget, and other outside entities as needed to facilitate the acceptance of funding.
  • Manages, edits, and writes briefing documents and analysis for internal and external purposes as necessary.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of full-time experience in grant management, financial planning/management, financial analysis, public policy analysis or a related field, or a Master's degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Finance or a related field, and two years of relevant experience;
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Word, as well as relevant grant databases and software;
  • Experience in grant management, specifically State and Federal funding sources;
  • Excellent organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative, problem solve, balance competing priorities, work independently, close attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a strong ability to work well with others in a diverse team/work environment, and an enthusiastic work ethic.

 

Salary Range:

$90,000 - $110,000
