CFL Senior Program Coordinator


The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) seeks an experienced science educator with an administrative and program management background, a strong background in elementary and early childhood STEM out of school time programming, as well as summer camp coordination and supervision experience. The position sits in the Children and Family Learning division of the Department of Education.


Major Responsibilities:


• Oversee the implementation of a variety of curriculum-based science programs for children ages 2-10 as part of the Adventures in Science series of camps and workshops.


• Along with department leadership, coordinate the development and revision of science curricula that highlight the assets and resources of the Museum, incorporate best practices for hands-on teaching and learning, and leverage the benefits of being in a free-choice learning environment.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities:


• Work with the Children and Family Learning leadership to: develop and coordinate a year-round calendar with multiple offerings for the Adventures in Science program. Address and respond to inquiries from families and participants about those programs. Coordinate timelines for program release and sales, website updates and maintenance, and participant enrollment and tracking procedures. Supervise program delivery and support classroom educators during programs in the Adventures in Science series.


• Work alongside department leadership, educators, and scientist advisors to create and revise innovative programs aligned with the Museum's long-term goals across Children and Family program offerings.


• Coordinate Adventures in Science program supply ordering and organization as well as the scheduling of a variety of Museum assets, ie: scientist visits, exhibition and classroom reservations, for program use.


• Teach Pre-K through 5th grade classes in various programs in the Children and Family Learning department as needed.


• Support Coordination efforts across CFL in refining application, registration, and enrollment process for a variety of short and long-term programs seated within the department.


• Some weekend work is required.


Required Qualifications:


• BS in natural science majors such as biology, earth and planetary sciences, geology, or anthropology preferred.

• 2 years experience in program administration or coordination

• Teaching experience with pre-K-5 students, preferably in informal settings.


Preferred Qualifications:


• M.S. or equivalent in early/elementary education, science, science education, or related field.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Tessitura (or other CRM systems) strongly preferred.

• Direct experience working with historically underrepresented groups in science is a plus.

• Experience with digital educational tools.
