The Director oversees and manages the provision of family law and economic justice legal services in the Bronx and Manhattan Family Justice Centers. This key leadership position in Sanctuary's Legal Center involves a strong partnership with the Bronx and Manhattan Family Justice Center executive staff, collaboration with other service providers in these Family Justice Centers, and the coordination of family law services provided by Sanctuary for Families (SFF) Legal Center staff. The Director advances and strengthens SFF's role as a leading provider of legal services and advocacy for domestic violence survivors involved in family law and economic justice litigation in Bronx and Manhattan Family and Supreme Courts, including by direct representation; mentoring and supervising legal staff, interns and pro bono attorneys; providing technical assistance to FJC partner agencies; and actively engaging in advocacy committees and task forces.

  • Provides general oversight, project development, and planning and evaluation to ensure the success of the family law and economic justice practice of the Bronx and Manhattan Family Justice Centers and advance Sanctuary's mission there;
  • Supervises all family and economic justice project staff, pro-bono attorneys, interns, and volunteers in the Bronx and Manhattan Family Justice Centers;
  • Creates and implements procedures for optimal practice across family law projects;
  • Represents clients and supervises staff and pro bono attorneys in the representation of Sanctuary's clients in family law and economic justice matters;
  • Responsible for staff recruitment, training, mentoring and evaluation to ensure high quality and professional delivery of services;
  • Provides supervision of project staff, pro-bono attorneys, interns, and volunteers;
  • Collaborates with government agencies and community- based organizations to improve systematic responses to survivors of gender-based violence;
  • Represents Sanctuary on committees, coalitions and task forces addressing gender violence;
  • Monitors and administers contract compliance and performance goals. Compiles data and prepares reports on project activities;
  • Collaborates with the Development Department on fundraising efforts and assists with drafting and editing grant applications;
  • Conducts outreach and trainings on site and in the community;
  • Ensures that project staff collaborate effectively with other projects within CBWLS and other departments within Sanctuary, including the Clinical Department and the Economic Empowerment Project;
  • Oversees legal screenings at the Family Justice Centers;
  • Performs any other department- or agency-related duties or special projects as directed.

  • J.D. degree
  • Eight or more years relevant experience
  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • Excellent public speaking skills

  • Knowledge of the field of domestic violence and a strong motivation to empower survivors
