Director, Center for Healthy Aging - NCOA

 

As the Director, Center for Healthy Aging, you will oversee programs with our partners across the country (public and private organizations at the national, state, and local levels) as well as play a significant part supporting NCOA’s role as the lead organization for the 100 Million Healthier Lives Aging Hub with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

 

Reporting to the center’s senior director and leading a team of five, you will oversee two established national programs – the National Chronic Disease Self-Management Resource Center and the National Falls Prevention Resource Center. With the addition of the 100 Million Healthier Lives Initiative, our program portfolio will soon include more consumer-based products, such as apps and other products and services geared directly to aging populations, to allow people to maintain and track their own healthy lives.

 

Working in close coordination with NCOA’s Public Policy & Advocacy staff and the center’s senior director, you will support policy initiatives to achieve even greater social impact. Additionally, you will assist the senior director in obtaining revenue (both from existing and new funders) to support NCOA’s work, including federal and foundation grants and corporate support.

Responsibilities of the Director, Center for Healthy Aging

  • Manage the day-to-day work of NCOA’s two National Resource Centers funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) – the National Chronic Disease Self-Management Resource Center and the National Falls Prevention Resource Center.
  • Support the achievement of NCOA’s social impact goals for the Resource Centers, as approved by the NCOA Board of Directors, and support the organizational direction and strategic priorities set by the NCOA executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Perform assigned tasks related to NCOA’s role as lead organization for the 100 Million Healthier Lives Aging Hub with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
  • Develop thought leadership around specific topics/emerging areas of focus, including the social and behavioral determinants of health.
  • Support policy initiatives, in close coordination with NCOA’s Public Policy & Advocacy staff and the Center’s senior director, to achieve even greater social impact, especially in the areas of business acumen, Medicare and Medicaid funding, regulatory changes, and community integration with health care.
  • Provide oversight management for assigned responsibilities within the Center. Identify potential synergies and efficiencies within the Center’s current and new work streams, as well as with the rest of NCOA.
  • Foster collaboration with a variety of public and private, national, state, and local organizations, as well as corporations. Actively seek widespread engagement of other organizations in program strategies and activities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with funding agencies and philanthropic and corporate sponsors and ensure that NCOA meets or exceeds the expected outcomes of NCOA’s grants and cooperative agreements for these areas.
  • Provide support to program staff; mentor, coach, counsel, grow, and nurture staff members consistent with NCOA’s career path framework, which is built to support NCOA’s strategy and maximize social impact, and includes adoption of social enterprise strategies.

Qualifications of the Director, Center for Healthy Aging

  • Master’s degree or higher.
  • Eight plus years of experience in the healthcare, gerontology, or policy sector or in a senior management position in a nonprofit organization, foundation, corporation, or government agency.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; exceptional presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in health policy with a firm understanding of the evolving healthcare system is a plus.
  • Experience generating substantial new program ideas with funding potential. Ability to successfully solicit and obtain new sources of funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other sources.
  • Experience with effective consumer marketing strategies and communication methodologies a plus.
  • Self-starter who strives for excellence in everything, maintains a culture of continuous improvement, and is welcoming of feedback and open dialogue.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, the internet, and web-based software; experience with Salesforce is a plus. Capable of utilizing online communities and resources.
