Student & Alumni Engagement Manager

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Student & Alumni Engagement Manager to add to its dynamic BridgeUP: STEM program.

BridgeUP: STEM is a computational science-focused education initiative that seeks to bridge the gender and opportunity gaps in the science and technology sectors by providing innovative education programming through five components: Brown Scholars, an immersive education program for high school girls that embeds computer science education in the context of scientific inquiry; Helen Fellows, a nationally-searched one-year fellowship for five post Baccalaureate women to launch their careers in computational science; a middle school partnership program for boys and girls who lack access to computational science education; a professional development program in computational science for New York City science educators; and an annual Museum Hackathon where professional developers address computational challenges in a given scientific discipline.

The position will leverage the resources of BridgeUP: STEM to generate long-term support for participants' success in higher education and careers in STEM. The position will create a network of BridgeUP: STEM graduates; support annual cohorts of Brow Scholars for specific college and career prep opportunities; build partnerships for the program among universities and the tech sector; and be part of a team managing Museum's alumni programming across all youth programs. The successful candidate is a highly organized individual, excellent communicator with experience in youth development and education programs.

In collaboration with the Director of BridgeUP: STEM and other key museum personnel, the Manager will:

• Lead the implementation of the “BridgeUP: STEM College Prep and Bootcamp program”. A new program for Brown Scholars in their Junior and Senior year of High School to help them navigate the college application process and prepare for college.

• Design and implement the “BridgeUP:STEM Internship Toolkit”, a professional development toolkit for Brown Scholars attending a 4-year university or college.

• Engage the alumni community, including their participation in the annual alumni kick off social event, the BridgeUP: STEM Hackathon, the AMNH career fair, and the alumni online community.

• Ensure the collection of evaluation data and create reports to improve program performance.

• As needed, provide programmatic support crucial to achieving the mission and goals of all components of BridgeUP: STEM, including general administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications:

- Undergraduate degree in a related field.

- At least three years of relevant work experience.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly with a sensitivity to cultural differences.

- Demonstrated accountability and resourcefulness in solving challenges.

- Passion for education and commitment to the values and goals of BridgeUp: STEM and AMNH.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master’s degree preferred.

- Familiarity with NYC school systems and experience working directly with high school and college students a plus.

- Knowledge of and familiarity with the college application process (including applying for financial aid) a plus.
