EverThrive Illinois is a statewide nonprofit organization founded by community health leaders to address the racial and economic health disparities faced by mothers and children in the state of Illinois. Started initially in 1988 as the Illinois Maternal & Child Health Coalition, EverThrive Illinois has been a leader in engaging consumers and providers to inform policy and programs. Everthrive’s commitment to health equity, diverse voices, and strong partnerships continue to anchor the work.

EverThrive Illinois’ next Executive Director must have a strong passion for the mission of EverThrive Illinois. This person must have deep concern not only for the health of women, children and families, but also a passion for serving at the intersection of policy and community engagement. Candidates should have some attachment to work in maternal and child health, and program exposure and experience in healthcare, reproductive rights, or some other related human services field.

The next Executive Director will be a proven leader with high-level, senior management experience, either as an executive director, development director, or other senior-level role. Candidates for this position must have proven leadership qualities to bring vision, direction, a collaborative atmosphere and inspiration to an organization. The ideal candidate will possess management abilities highlighted by a track record of high-level nonprofit program administration, business and financial acumen, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, comfort and facility with public speaking, and a demonstrated presence within the human service and philanthropic communities.

The next leader must bring expertise in fundraising and be invested and experienced in the giving arena. He or she will be able to broaden the number and types of funders approached by EverThrive Illinois, and s/he must also advise the organization as it considers and examines alternative approaches to fundraising and revenue generation. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with funders, potential donors and other sources of financial support. This person must be willing to serve as a compelling and credible public advocate for the promulgation of policies and legislation that promote the fulfillment of EverThrive Illinois’ mission.

Personal qualities that will define the Executive Director include “Empathetic, Reflective, Adaptable, Relatable, Outgoing, Lifelong Learner, and Servant Leader.” EverThrive Illinois’ leader will be able to contribute to a positive culture through a fine balance of Listening, Learning and Leading. A “listening and learning” attitude will serve the Executive Director well, and yet he or she cannot shrink from providing leadership in the face of adversity or controversy. The next leader must be able to inspire and evoke confidence from EverThrive Illinois’ partners.

He or she will be able to appreciate and acknowledge the work of EverThrive Illinois’ dedicated staff. The individual should be a strategic thinker and problem-solver without seeking or desiring to solve every problem themselves; a healthy and intentional reliance on staff and volunteers (including board members) is required. She or he must be able to demonstrate effective management approaches in understanding others’ opinions, building consensus, and acting with integrity and decisiveness. Experience in hiring and managing highly qualified human service professionals is required. A proven ability to inspire and motivate employees and volunteers is essential to ensure maintenance of EverThrive Illinois’ culture of professionalism, respect, and commitment.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required; a master’s degree in management, public policy, public health or other related field is desirable.
