Chief Strategy and Development Officer

Cohen Veterans Bioscience (CVB) is looking for an experienced full-time Chief Strategy and Development Officer, reporting to the CEO to work in our NY City office (311 W 43rd St) The Chief Strategy and Development Officer is responsible for strategy development, fundraising, industry partnerships, and communications at Cohen Veterans Bioscience and is playing a key/critical role in funding so the organization can move forward with the mission to accelerate discovery and development of new diagnostics, treatments and cures for brain disease.

The successful candidate will be personable, proactive and highly methodical in his/her attentiveness to detail, with 10+ years as an experienced executives who have worn multiple hats and can both analyze and act with equal ease. Experience working with like companies in the science/biotech industry whose mission was to get a drug/treatment to market. The incumbent should be able to demonstrate both expert business knowledge and a past record of strategic and tactical success. Past experience with development work is required but may not be the core function.

The Chief Strategy and Development Officer will partner closely with Project Leaders and cross-functional Project Team members

The ideal candidate will be a team player with highly evolved organizational, communicative and inter-personal skills, as they will need to gain the cooperation of others and broker communication and harmonization among team members, and will have a sense of urgency and commitment to meet aggressive timelines.


The candidate will be assigned to lead CVB strategy development, fundraising, industry partnerships, and communications that align with their area of expertise and support the CVB mission to advance biomarkers, diagnostics, develop translational research tools, and accelerate therapeutic development for target brain diseases.

  • Articulates the company's mission in a clear and concise way that can speak to donors, customers and employees at all levels
  • Collaborates with senior management to devise effective short and long term plans
  • Creates actionable goals that make it possible to turn that mission into tangible results
  • Develops new business opportunities by leveraging contacts, pursuing new product development, and improving project efficiency
  • Responsible for coordinating and managing the relationship of CVB with corporations, foundations and individuals from who funds are sought
  • Manage press, events, digital strategy, marketing, speechwriting and all public affairs to further CVB's agenda
  • Development of internal and external key CVB messages, messaging and communication strategies on matters of importance as needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


  • Advanced degree; doctoral degree preferred in neuroscience, molecular biology, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, psychology or related scientific field, medical degree or equivalent life experience.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of management strategies, financial accounting, customer relations, and familiarity of drug development process.
  • Must be familiar with fundraising and increasing revenue while maintaining a comprehensive and cohesive brand and identity
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and communicating both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to multitask with research projects, data analysis, coordination with the executive team, and acting as the public face of the company in the absence of the company's CEO
  • Must be willing to challenge the standard thinking with new ideas, new approaches, and new solutions
  • Must have strong decision-making skills and the determination to see projects through to the end
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, management, and collaboration
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently
  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; mobilize and motivate teams
  • Solid business and scientific technical acumen; versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, organizational, and financial planning skills
  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office PPT, Word, Excel and Project Management Tracking software.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability.
  • Excellent English communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, results-oriented, and strategic thinker
  • Familiarity with the Drug Development Process
  • Candidate must possess excellent team building, training and facilitation skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize and balance multiple projects and priorities
  • Vendor experience with contracts/negotiation is preferred
