Job Title: Senior State Program Director

The Senior State Program Director is a position that leads Working America programs across assigned states and / or campaigns, as well as builds Working America’s political and organizational profile within the local progressive community. The Senior State Program Director works with the Political/Campaigns Director and other canvass leaders to ensure the integration of Working America’s program within the local labor and progressive community; secures funding for the organization; plans and implements issue, political, and other organizing campaigns; ensures the quality of Working America’s member activism; and builds the Working America brand through media.
This is a fixed-term position with an end date of Dec. 22, 2023.
Reports to: Political Director/Campaigns Director
<h1>Duties:</h1>
- Work with Campaigns/Political Director and canvass leadership to ensure that membership recruitment and other canvass and organizational goals across assigned states and / or campaigns are met;
- Work w/ Political/Campaigns Director to train/develop State Program Directors and other program and political staff;
- Represent the interests of Working America, within the State Federation and local labor councils, AFL-CIO affiliates, and allied organizations in the progressive community; and work with AFL-CIO affiliated labor organizations and allied partners on a variety of campaigns; represent Working America and build our brand with the press (as needed);
- In coordination with the Campaigns/Political Director and national staff, determine turf selection, issue mobilization, and digital engagement; work with Campaigns/Political Director and national staff to develop and implement campaigns that encompass issues, organizing, elections, member engagement, and more;
- Work with Campaigns/Political Director and national staff to set goals and raise funds and profile within the state(s) via donor community, unions, small and large individual donors, foundations, etc.;
- Work with Campaigns/Political Director on deepening Working America membership engagement to organization; manage database of program activity and member activism;
- Support national projects and campaigns as needed or assigned by Campaigns/Political Director;
- Other duties as assigned.
<h1>Qualifications:</h1>
- Two years of experience as Working America State Program Director (or equivalent experience required);
- One year experience as a field canvass director preferred;
- Four or more years’ experience in electoral, labor or progressive politics;
- Knowledge of national and local structures of the labor movement;
- Strong research skills and ability to work w/ large data sets
- Ability to effectively execute and direct voter contact and GOTV operations;
- Leadership, team-building and strategic planning ability;
- Ability to engage, mobilize and develop activists;
- Ability to work independently in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments;
- Excellent problem-solving and relational skill
- Computer proficiency and strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to travel and attend in-person meetings, conferences, events, and other gatherings on a regular basis;
- Must be able to work irregular and long hours.
