Description:

The Managing Director of Operations (MDO) leads the operations team and collaborates with the Head of School to ensure the financial and operational health and functioning of the school.

Objectives of Role

Ensures the school has sustainable systems and structures in place to maximize resources in support of educational and organizational goals. Provides leadership and professional development for non-pedagogical staff, setting clear expectations and high standards of operational excellence daily and long-term. Develops and oversees successful implementation of administrative policies and procedures for human resources, procurement, financial management, budget planning, asset inventories, food services, facilities maintenance, and data analysis. Manages contracts and grants, compliance reporting, and monitors all aspects of school administration for continuous improvement.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Maintain Up-to-Date Policies and Procedures for all Aspects of School Administration
  • Staff Manual and Employee Dashboard, Family Handbook and Enrollment Policy, Operations Manual, Financial Management Policies and Procedures
  • Lead the Administrative Team to Operational Excellence
  • Schedule and supervise daily functions of school operations team including financial management, infrastructure and student services, record-keeping and data management, communication with the school community
  • Create a culture of success and open communication
  • Develop team members’ individual job skills and interactions to guarantee teamwork
  • Provide Operational and Business Expertise to School Leadership Team
  • Budget planning, advising on school needs, marshalling resources for educational priorities, acting as liaison to family association`
  • Manage Grants and Contracts to Optimize Resources
  • Title 1 and other government grants, benefits and payroll system, school food, financial management, facilities, custodial services, substitute hiring
  • Ensure Timely, Accurate Compliance Reporting
  • Including all correspondence with SUNY, NYSED, NYCDOE, and to the CSA Board of Trustees

Qualifications

● B.A. or B.S. degree required with coursework in Business Administration, Organizational Management, or related disciplines desired; Master’s degree preferred

● A minimum of five years of extensive experience with budgeting, computer information systems, and organizational procedures. Experience with a charter school strongly preferred

● Understanding of general principles, methods and procedures related to purchasing, operations, safety, computer networking programs, food service, budgeting and accounting, electronic data processing techniques and methods, purchasing and inventory control systems.

● Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques and strategies of organization, team management and supervision; knowledge of laws, policies and regulations pertaining to youth and employee records

● Able to apply empirical principles and procedures to job performance; prepare financial and statistical documents and reports; draw logical conclusions and prepare comprehensive reports; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all partners; deal effectively with situations requiring tact and judgment; exercise patience, common sense, and good humor to thrive within the pressures, competing priorities and demands of a school office environment.
