ABOUT THE ROLE

Overview

The Manager of Assessment for Learning will lead the design and implementation of data-driven systems that leverage assessment data to support student learning across schools. They are responsible for monitoring learning progress across a variety of systems and contexts to inform thoughtful planning to support each individual student to accelerate their learning. They work alongside other stakeholders to identify trends in student academic progress and make programmatic decisions and align relevant supports to address those trends. The Manager of Assessment for Learning is part of our academic team and reports to our Senior Director of Academics, but collaborates regularly with stakeholders across the organization. The optimal candidate for this role is a data-driven decision-maker, has a strong understanding of formative assessment cycles, can work well independently and as part of a team, and is a problem-solver who enjoys helping others.

Your primary professional responsibilities as Manager of Assessment for Learning will include, but not be limited to:

  • Designing, implementing, and supporting formative and summative assessment cycles across the organization
  • Leveraging formative and summative assessment cycles to guide academic programming and teacher supports in service of learning acceleration for all students
  • Analyzing data across platforms and assessments in order to identify learning trends and drive data-driven decision-making
  • Internalizing student-level goals in order to provide guidance and coaching around individualized student supports 
  • Working alongside school directors to leverage assessment data to craft plans that are responsive to both strengths and areas of opportunity in their schools
  • Provide classroom-level supports for assessing and responding to student learning,
  • Crafting and leading professional learning experiences that are rigorous, aligned, and collaborative in service of building a culture of data-driven decision making

  • Invest Stakeholders - Inspires others to action and/or investment. Builds coalition among stakeholders to garner support for LAB priorities and align team members.
  • Relationships and Collaboration - Builds and sustains excellent relationships both inside and outside the organization; relates well to different levels (supervisors, peers, direct reports,); encourages input and ideas from others; fosters collaboration across the organization; removes barriers to collaboration and teamwork; manages differences with diplomacy.

Qualifications

All successful candidates must possess an unwavering belief that all students, regardless of their backgrounds and educational pasts, have the potential to succeed in college or an appropriately rigorous post-secondary outcome. In addition, strong candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Instructional experience and proficiency with student assessments
  • Experience managing data tools and systems
  • Demonstrated capacity for lateral coaching and influence
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and guide data-driven decision making
  • Exceptional detail orientation and follow through
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Commitments

In the role of Manager of Assessment for Learning, you should expect to adhere to the following commitments:

  • Prepare for and attend a weekly check-in with your manager, the Director of Academics, to support and drive your work
  • Receive and incorporate feedback on your work from network and school team members 
  • Collaborate regularly with other members of the Academic Team and school based teachers and leaders in both formal meetings and informal settings
  • Balance your time between design and implementation of assessment cycles, data analysis and trend identification, and direct supports for implementation
  • Manage your time exceptionally well across a variety of workstreams, always adhering to deadlines and deliverables
  • Maintain excellent communication across teams to ensure your work is well-informed by other workstreams and the school-based experience

Salary

At least $92,500

Benefits

COMPENSATION

You will receive a competitive benefits package that improves over time and is competitive with other New York City charter schools. Other salary differentiation will be based on experience.

In addition to competitive salaries, LAB benefits package includes:

  • 80% cost share of health, dental, vision employee plan premiums
  • 5% of annualized base salary contribution to a LAB retirement plan which vests at a percentage annually
  • An employee professional development allowance for improving the employee’s practice

Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools (LAB) is a network of open enrollment, college-prep, public charter schools that opened its first middle school in downtown Brooklyn in 2014. LAB opened its second middle school in the fall of 2016, and will open its first two high schools in the fall of 2017, both in downtown Brooklyn.
