About Roca Inc.
Roca Inc. works with high-risk young men to change their behavior, and shift the trajectories of their lives to move towards the outcomes of economic independence and living out of harm's way. Established in 1988, Roca's mission is to disrupt the cycle of incarceration and poverty by helping young people transform their lives using a nationally-recognized, evidenced-based intervention model that engages high-risk youth in long-term behavior change, and skill-building opportunities.
Roca's Intervention Model is a cognitiverestructuring and skills development model that was developed and implemented to address the highrisk, underserved population of young adults aged 16-24 who are not ready, willing, or able to participate in any program and who are at a critical level of risk. Roca serves young men who are actively involved in crime and violence, and young mothers who are dramatically disengaged and disconnected from services.
Roca's young men are deeply involved in the criminal justice system. They actively engage in gang violence, shootings, street activity, and other crime. Their adolescent years typically included dropping out of school, multiple arrests, drug abuse, and no employment history. By any validated risk assessment, they qualify as being at high risk for future engagement in violence, both as victims and as perpetrators, and long-term incarceration.
Roca's young mothers are out of school and work and severely disconnected from services. They typically have histories of abuse and are isolated, marginalized, or otherwise lack social or familial support systems. In addition, Roca's young mothers are not served by home visiting or young parent programs, usually because they actively refuse to participate. They and their children are at high-risk for further exposure to violence, trauma, and instability.
