This role will guide NAF in shaping and implementing strategies that will help develop and retain high-performing employees as well as will provide strategic and day-to-day operational leadership on all equity, diversity and inclusion policies, programs, and practices for the organization.

This person will be a trusted partner to senior leaders and employees in leading DE&I efforts, developing programs and implementing initiatives to ensure the optimal attraction, development and retention of diverse talent and infusing DE&I principles and practices across the organization. This will be achieved by designing employee training programs, building succession plans and formalizing processes that ensure equitable opportunity for advancement with the organization. The role requires a solid understanding of full-cycle recruiting along with a strategic mindset in order to develop a skilled workforce in an organization that is a mix of New York office-based and remote.

The position will also be an advisor on NAF’s DE&I integration as it applies to outward-facing activities, such as Marketing and Communications and the policies and practices that drive NAF’s programmatic work.

This position directly supervises staff members assigned to the Administrative and Human Resources team with a focus on high-quality internal and external customer service.

Diversity and Inclusion:

  • The design and leadership of specific DE&I programs and initiatives
  • Drive leadership awareness, commitment and accountability for DE&I initiatives;
  • Partner with Communications to communicate DE&I initiatives and messaging.
  • Working with leaders across the organization to embed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into all parts of NAF including reviewing Strategic and Department plans to advise on the integration of DE&I principals; and being accountable for the evolution of a DE&I strategy
  • Measure, track and analyze the effectiveness of DE&I initiatives to report on progress and identify opportunities for future areas of focus

Talent Development:

  • Oversee sourcing and hiring procedures to ensure attraction and selection of high-potential employees to support strategic plans and initiatives
  • Design and deliver employee training programs that foster employee professional development and advancement (e.g. individual, team, skill-based and management training)
  • Oversee formal and informal mentoring opportunities for employees including structure of NAF’s biannual mentoring program; provide individual and team coaching as requested, or in relation to areas of need
  • Build succession plans
  • Design formalized employee promotion/merit increase policies that foster transparency, equity, and are based in Core Competencies
  • Oversee equitable and transparent opportunity for participation in cross-function teams and other high-visibility internal opportunities
  • Discuss career-pathing options with high-potential employees
  • Conduct skills gap analyses to determine personnel needs
  • Calculate and monitor employee engagement metrics, like retention and turnover rates
  • Oversee benchmark analyses of compensation and benefits
  • Provide team members with direction for leadership and development initiatives


  • Oversees the strategic execution of Human Resources functions, including:
  • Recruiting, on-boarding, separations and personnel records
  • In collaboration with Assistant Director, Human Resources, ensure that, performance management processes are delivered in a fair and consistent manner and through a DE&I lens; and support equitable opportunities for employee advancement
  • Establishing and executing strategies to support the enhancement of a collaborative, collegial and professional workplace environment, including establishing opportunities for employee interactions (e.g., Home Weeks and communications)
  • High-level HR compliance and risk management issues, including but not limited to policy updates, conflict management, performance management and improvement issues, and involuntary terminations
  • Oversees Administration function including:
  • All functions related to maintenance of facilities, safety and security of the NYC headquarters
  • Provides logistical and program oversight for large scale internal and external meetings, including but not limited to: Manages and executes Home Week twice annually. This includes agenda setting and oversight of logistics
  • Oversee the HR/Administration Budget

Supervisory Responsibility (Direct and indirect reports)

  • Number of exempt positions supervised: 3+
  • Number of non-exempt positions supervised: 1

Travel Requirement

  • This position is based in the New York City headquarters (other locations will be considered). Occasional travel required.

Educational/Training Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Human Resources; Public Administration; Diversity and Inclusion; or similar relevant field


  • 10 years’ experience in progressive levels DE& I, and high-level related HR functions
  • 5 years’ experience managing a team
  • Experience overseeing facilities, safety and security is a big plus
  • Experience with remote employees a big plus


  • Additional certification (e.g. SHRM-SCP or SPHR) is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven work experience in Talent Management and Diversity and Inclusion or similar role
  • Hands-on experience implementing learning and development programs
  • Knowledge of compensation and benefits packages
  • Experience with performance management procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of employment law
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership abilities
  • Professional with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to supervise and work with a diverse group of individuals and to foster a collegial, collaborative approach
  • Self-starter, comfortable in working in a flexible, dynamic environment
  • Capable of listening and motivating others to attain higher levels of productivity and collaboration aligned to the organization’s agenda
