ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Accountant will serve a critical role of overseeing all accounting functions and systems, including reporting, general ledger reconciliation, and accounting policy development The ideal candidate is a dynamic self-starter with a proven track-record of working collaboratively to effectively perform the accounting and finance activities of the organization The role aims to increase internal departmental efficiency and maintain workflows related to accounts payable and receivable functions

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Manage Accounting Records and Systems

  • Manages accounting data in Quickbooks and all financial files
  • Leads preparation of general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliation
  • Analyses and reconciles balance sheet accounts
  • Assists in adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standard, preparing written accounting policy for company, and preparing new disclosures
  • Supports policy development and offers advice regarding accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Responsible for accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books
  • Reviews financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and supports day-to-day operations
  • Produces month-end financial reports and issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Reports, analyzes, and interprets financial and operating data for management
  • Prepares, reviews, and interprets data for inclusion in financial reports, statements, and summaries
  • Assists with company cash flow analysis including but not limited to tracking cash flow activity, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reporting and analyses for the executive leaders and finance board committee
  • Supports the Development Team with grant reports
  • Develops reporting and variance analysis regarding departmental operating budget versus actual expenses
  • Analyzes and maintains all accounts receivable accounts, refund accounts, and deposit accounts
  • Assists with annual budget preparation and external audits process with required reports
  • Assists with related special projects as required

Customer Service

  • Offer support to internal clients in complying with Finance workflows and timelines
  • Reviews and analyzes the organization's accounting operation; recommends improvements
  • Assists with related special projects as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager

Systems Administrator

  • Serve as a primary administrator for Salesforce.com and QuickBooks
  • Serve as a super user for Bill.com, Expensify and other payment application used by the organization
  • Audit and confirm integrity of data entries and system interphases
  • Train users on the accounting and finance systems

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 5+ years of nonprofit accounting experience including financial reporting and audit process
  • Highly competent with Quickbooks and MS Excel
  • Experience with financial applications such as Salesforce, Bill.com and Expensify strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Track record of successful collaborative relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks, sometimes under time pressure
  • Strong work ethic, ability to manage a significant workload and prioritize tasks independently
  • Team player mentality with the ability to collaboratively in support of team’s goals and members

This position reports to the VP of Finance & Operations (or designee) and is classified as Salaried, Exempt (FLSA). The scope of responsibilities is not limited to those listed above and may change as organizational needs evolve. Specific work plan goals are developed each year to inform performance targets
