Division of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn's foremost provider of student services and educational access. The Director of the Penn Women's Center (PWC) leads a dynamic, diverse, and innovative office recognized internationally for celebrating and advancing the historic, contemporary, and future contributions of women. Founded in 1973 and occupying a high-profile location in the center of campus, the PWC actively supports a thriving community of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; staff and faculty, and all Penn community members in innovative leadership, engagement, equity, social, and recreational programming. The PWC also provides intergenerational networking, outreach and resource programming, confidential crisis counseling, referrals, and ongoing advocacy to members of the University community experiencing discrimination/harm from gender discrimination, relationship violence, sexual violence, and/or stalking.
The Director especially, and enthusiastically, engages all Penn students with innovative programming that marks the PWC as a vital and inviting hub of co-curricular life. The Director's student- focused mission requires a flexible schedule to be highly-visible, demonstrably responsive to emergent opportunities and challenges, and to participate regularly in night/weekend events.
The Director reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Equity and Access and serves as a strong partner on a diverse team of cultural resource centers: The Center for Hispanic Excellence: La Casa Latina; the Greenfield Intercultural Center (GIC); Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center (LGBTC); Makuu: Black Cultural Center; and the Pan-Asian American Community House (PAACH). The Director supervises three full-time staff and works closely with peers at Penn Violence Prevention, Special Services (Division of Public Safety), and the Sexual Violence Investigative Office (SVIO).
Among the Director's highest priority duties are:
* Actively engaging undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and student organizations, with community-building programs and activities;
* Collaborating with schools, centers, and departments on initiatives to advance female-identifying students' career ambitions through leadership development initiatives;
* Conversations, programs, and activities to promote gender equity in specific professions and academic disciplines;
* Nurturing relationships and intergenerational networking activities between students, alumnae/i, faculty, staff, and families, and
* Providing confidential crisis counseling, referrals, and, as needed, ongoing case advocacy to members of the University
Advanced graduate degree in a relevant field and 5-7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrated excellence in actively supporting a thriving community of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; staff and faculty, and all Penn community members in innovative leadership, engagement, equity, social, and recreational programming. Demonstrated ability to create and administer effective programs and services for a wide variety of constituents including demonstrated efficacy in the use of social platforms to advance programming and messaging. Previous experience working in an administrative and/or faculty capacity at the university level required. Experience working in both a preventative and responsive capacity on violence prevention highly desirable. Experience supervising staff, working independently and collaboratively, mediating, negotiating, and solving problems with grace under pressure. Flexible attitude and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
