ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Opening its doors in 2019, the Jackie Robinson Museum will commemorate the life and legacy of a true American hero through an exploration of his commitment to service and to the achievement of “first class citizenship” for all Americans. In addition to curating the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson, the Museum will be an exciting cultural venue for lectures, concerts, receptions, and other events. It will serve as a forum for debate and discussion, exploring the ways in which we as a society also can progress through an understanding that one life can make a difference.


To date, the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) has raised $26 million toward a total campaign goal of $42 million, including a Museum operating endowment. The Museum will comprise of over 18,000 square feet of exhibition and community space including a 75-seat theater and two classrooms for educational programs. The Museum will be a prominent stop on existing cultural routes in Lower Manhattan in New York City, just blocks away from the Freedom Tower and 9/11 Memorial. ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Jackie Robinson Museum seeks an entrepreneurial development leader to serve as its inaugural Chief Development and External Affairs Officer (CDEAO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this person will partner closely with the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and the Board to establish a development vision and strategy that fuels growth. In addition, the CDEAO will lead JRF’s Development team to nurture the relationships with existing donors and supporters, while cultivating and developing new prospects.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Fundraising Strategy and Execution

  • Establish and manage execution of the overall fundraising strategy for the museum and foundation to ensure long-term, recurring, diversified fund development with the primary goal being sustainable growth
  • In partnership with CEO, identify, develop, and cultivate major gift prospects - individual donors, corporations, foundation, and government agencies - ($100,000 and above) and execute stewardship and closing strategies
  • Represent the Museum and JRF and the Museum externally, building authentic, lasting relationships with donors across all revenue streams
  • Oversee a program that ensures corporate/foundation grantors/prospects and partners receive accurate and timely reports, proposals, and other items as outlined in agreements.
  • Set strategy, goals, and oversee National Legacy Capital Campaign and raise at least $20 million for an initial endowment


Organizational Leadership and Management

  • At the senior leadership level, contribute to the museum and foundation’s vision, strategy and cultural development; be a key culture carrier internally and externally
  • Develop, coach and manage a high-performing team of development professionals, holding team members accountable for achieving ambitious goals and ensuring they have opportunities for growth and development
  • Provide leadership and support to the Board of Directors to strengthen their ability to participate in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors.
  • Design and implement development strategy, measures of success, and individual team member fundraising goals


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in nonprofit development with a proven track record for growth
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A true collaborative leader with integrity who thinks outside the box
  • Deep commitment to the mission of perpetuating Jackie Robinson’s legacy and the mission of JRF as it relates to the new Museum
  • Prior experience cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and closing funds from individuals, corporations, government and foundations, with a track record of achieving at least $3 million in yearly fundraising revenue and a track record of securing high five-figure gifts and moving donors to progressively higher giving levels
  • Sophisticated interpersonal skills, with a track record of building long-term relationships internally and externally
  • Experience in corporate fundraising and cause-based marketing, including the ability to prospect and pursue corporate funders and develop aligned marketing initiatives
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines, including effectively managing multiple projects, self-prioritizing, creating priorities for others, and adjusting to shifting priorities while meeting existing deadlines and showing attention to detail
  • Strong team management experience with ability to foster teamwork and collaboration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated mastery of technology, including Raiser’s Edge or a similar CRM
