Job Summary

The Social Innovation and Change Initiative (SICI) at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) has an immediate opening for an experienced and motivated Program Manager to join a high performing team of faculty, staff, students, and practitioners as they create and execute on projects designed to advance the field of social innovation. SICI (pronounced "sigh-see") was created to transform how we support social innovators - both on and off campus - as they navigate the challenges of initiating and implementing breakthrough social change around the world.

Working as an integral part of an energetic and growing team, the Program Manager will report to SICI's Assistant Director of Programs. The Program Manager will work as a meaningful thought partner, engaged collaborator, and proactive problem solver throughout the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic programming for this initiative at HKS.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Develop and Deliver Educational Programming
Manages delivery and independently drives execution of the New World Social Innovation Fellowship, Beck Visiting Social Innovator Program, and additional education-related programming.
Responsibilities include:
  • Content Design: Collaborate with SICI's Assistant Director of Programs, guest faculty, and/or visiting practitioners on content development, pedagogy, and in-person facilitation of programs.
  • Program Delivery: Independently execute regular and off-cycle programming and events (i.e. program sessions, Annual Social Innovator Showcase, bi-annual retreats, program kick-off/closing). This includes approximately 1 evening/week and 1 weekend/semester.
  • Relationship Management: Build positive and effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including the SICI team, students, alumni, staff, faculty, Harvard partners, and other collaborators to proactively enhance and elevate educational programming.
  • Program Evaluation: Systematically track, organize and analyze trends related to programmatic activities and outcomes; use data to inform and improve performance and impact.
  • Mentoring Social Innovators: Coach and advise students to advance their learning, leadership, and social innovation efforts.
  • Recruitment and Selection: Independently execute recruitment and selection process for existing programs. Collaborate with Assistant Director of Programs and SICI leadership on strategy for Fellowship expansion across Harvard University in the coming years.
  • Alumni Management: Manage on-going program alumni engagement.
  • Culture Ambassador: General upkeep and reinforcement of important cultural norms and values in SICI community.

Advance Strategic Priorities
Proactively and systematically contributes insights to SICI's strategic priorities such as pedagogical codification, dissemination, influence, and expansion.
This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Collaborate with SICI Leadership to inform and respond to evolving needs of the social innovation ecosystem and key constituencies (SICI faculty members, the HKS Dean's Office, Harvard partners, etc.). Assistance with developing programming accordingly.
  • Prepare for and contribute to SICI strategy meetings and weekly team briefings on SICI's progress, proactively identifying potential obstacles and opportunities to advance SICI's mission.
  • Lead special projects and other duties, as needed.


Additional Information

This position is a fully benefits-eligible term appointment ending one year from date of hire with very strong possibility of renewal.

Salary Range: $62,700 - $102,500
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with program delivery, project management, or related responsibilities.
