Position Description:

The Patent Prosecution and Compliance Analyst is a member of the Patent Prosecution Group, a cross-functional, team-oriented unit within the UCLA Technology Development Group (TDG). Under the broad direction of the Chief IP Officer, the Patent Prosecution and Compliance Analyst provides analytical and administrative support to the Chief IP Officer and Patent/licensing professionals, patent attorneys, and inventors. Core responsibilities include: invention intake, federal and non-federal sponsor reporting, and iEdison compliance. Perform highly specialized tasks relating to technology transfer management and the patent prosecution and maintenance process. Docket and monitor actionable items to ensure that office professionals are provided with advance notice of critical deadlines, which if not met can result in loss of patent rights. Coordinate actions relating to the patent process internally and externally with UCLA inventors, campus departments, outside patent counsel, sponsors, business partners, annuity services and the UC Office of the President; perform research on Internet; initiate correspondence, prepares forms, and legal documents. Provide information and notifications to appropriate individuals to ensure efficient and timely information and document flow; verify accuracy of outside counsel and annuity service correspondence and invoices. Train staff, perform analysis of patent portfolios, prepare monthly and ad hoc activity reports, answer phones, create electronic and physical files; coordinate meetings; perform other office responsibilities as directed and provide back-up support to others in the unit as needed.
