Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence,

sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and

children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range

of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of

abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training,

and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This model is a trauma informed activity program which supports teens whose background experience includes gender based violence and residual trauma. Staff working with this demographic will be empathetic, caring, and knowledgeable about how trauma impacts individuals. Summer Activity Specialists will act to support teens in our summer activities program by modeling positive attitudes, providing guidance, and identifying any potential issues.

Our summer activities program will take place within the 5 boroughs of NYC, August 23-27, 2021. We will be taking day trips to various parts of the city and participating in different activities, including a high ropes course, museums, art activities, etc. We also may have some virtual days of camp, depending on weather issues.

We are looking for someone who is interested in and excited to work with teenagers. Also, someone who is flexible and able to help guide our campers through activities in different parts of NYC, with the support of our Summer Activity Leadership Team.

Job Responsibilities

- Facilitate and lead activities with teen campers, with guidance and input from Summer Activity Leadership Team.

- Provide leadership and guidance to teens during our trips and activities.

- Interpret to the teens the policies and rules of the program.

- Practice good health habits and maintain good personal appearance.

- Maintain records on each teen to help evaluate their needs, goals and progress during their program experience. (Procedures for record-keeping will be covered in pre-program training).

- Be totally familiar with emergency procedures and follow them when necessary.

- Be willing to invest your time with the teens to meet their needs, challenge their capabilities, and be as competent as possible.

- Follow other rules and regulations that are deemed important by the Program Director.

- Strive to work in a cooperative manner with fellow staff to achieve goals of the program.

- Understand that teens come first and decisions should be made in the best interest of teens.

-Must follow COVID Health guidelines as implemented by Leadership Team (follow sanitation procedures, maintaining social distancing when possible, must wear face mask).


- Education: High school graduate, 1 or 2 years of college preferred.

- Experience: Must have either one year experience in working with teens, supervision of children or have completed an acceptable training course.

- Personal: Good health, emotionally mature and a willingness to work under supervision to accomplish SFF's objectives.

- Technology: must have technology and capability to connect to any virtual program platform and activities, as needed.

- Must be able to travel around NYC using public transportation.
