BACKGROUND

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House (Lenox Hill), widely recognized as one of New York’s premier nonprofit human service organizations, is a 126-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated human services which significantly improve the lives of thousands of people in need each year, predominantly on the East Side of Manhattan. Their 15,000 clients include older adults, homeless and formerly homeless adults, children and families, recent immigrants, disabled persons, adult learners and thousands more. Lenox Hill is among the oldest settlement houses in the nation and has long been a leader in addressing issues including affordable housing, health care, hunger, education, poverty, homelessness and long-term care for older adults.

POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a newly-created position, designed to add to the size and scope of the senior leadership team, to improve bandwidth, and to increase organizational effectiveness. The senior leadership team has been in place for decades and works together to lead the organization and to set the standard for excellence in nonprofit management. Lenox Hill seeks an accomplished manager to join the team and help Lenox Hill continue to improve and excel.

·     Oversee all human resource functions. Administer and ensure compliance on employment policies and practices and benefits.

·     Oversee all insurance needs and ensure cost effectiveness of policies, including staff medical plans, property/casualty, D&O, malpractice, workers’ compensation, etc.

·     Oversee risk management and any potential litigation affecting Lenox Hill.

·     Supervise Administration Managers who manage purchasing, contracting, data analytics, reporting and much more.

·     Manage all private vendor contracts and relationships.

·     Oversee the contracting process with federal, state and city funding agencies.

·     With others on the senior management team, oversee internal communications to the board and staff.

·     Help to lead the organization’s decision-making and strategic thinking.

·     Develop and implement plans for the improvement of administrative infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel, designed to accommodate the continued strength and efficiency of the organization.


QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of ten [10] years of substantial experience in a senior management role responsible for creating and executing policies and procedures within administration, HR, and government funding/relations. Significant HR experience is a requirement, as this component will be a key part of the job.   

·      Results-Oriented – Proven track record of exceeding goals and target objectives.

·      Proactive Mindset – A professional who takes ownership of their areas of responsibility and continually looks at developing new solutions and process improvements.

·      Administrative Management – Ability to implement systems and processes to manage effectively in a large and programmatically diverse organization.

·      Decision-Making – Evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, experience, and judgment.

·      Strong HR Experience – Prior experience overseeing many aspects of Human Resources.

·      Team Management – Ability to effectively build organizational and staff capacity and develop sound processes.

·      Leadership – Capacity for managing and leading people, with the ability to connect staff members across multiple locations and to foster accountability.

·      Action-Oriented – Able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available. Highly self-motivated and self-managed. 

·      Financial Acumen – Significant understanding of accounting systems, budgeting, business analysis, finance and information systems.

·      Undergraduate degree required. Relevant graduate degree desired (MBA, MPA, JD, MPH).
