We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator is a member of the SFF Children and Family Services Program team at the Queens Family Justice Center. The Coordinator will provide counseling to a caseload of clients while also overseeing the Children's Room and supervising the Children's Activity Leader. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the rest of the SFF Clinical team on site, as well as other staff at the Family Justice Center staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive assessment and individual counseling to a caseload of children and teens who have witnessed or experienced family violence;
  • Oversees the Children's Room and related programming;
  • Supervises the Children's Activity Leader and student interns and volunteers;
  • Develops and facilitates children's support groups, and child-centered psycho-educational groups for parents;
  • Makes referrals and provides advocacy for children and families;
  • Develops appropriate interventions to meet clients' varying needs;
  • Develops and provides training and community outreach;
  • Attends required meetings including Sanctuary for Families meetings, Family Justice Center meetings, and other partner organization meetings;
  • Maintains case files, notes and statistics for program and reviews those of onsite staff;
  • Participates in weekly supervision. Completes reports as required;
  • Performs any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor.


  • LMSW or LMHC or related counseling degree;
  • Experience working with children and teens;
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge in play therapy and other evidence-based interventions, such as TF-CBT and CPP, being certified preferred;
  • Knowledge of child development and family systems theories and frameworks;
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence or knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred;
  • Ability to take on a wide range of administrative tasks;
  • Strong organizational skills required;
  • Ability to function independently, and work on a team;
  • Ability to work two evenings a week and to maintain a flexible work schedule.
