$15.00/hr, 20 hours per week

Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Intern will support marketing, communications and membership initiatives at the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). The intern will edit, proofread and provide other editorial support for production of publications and promotional materials. In addition, the intern will maintain multiple communications platforms and handle other administrative duties as assigned. The intern will also be responsible for identifying at least one substantive project to be completed during the internship period. This project should build knowledge, skills or abilities relevant to the intern’s future career.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who are available for two or more semesters. The intern position will begin in late January 2020.

Duties & Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Editorial Support - Editing, proofing and fact-checking of marketing, membership and communications materials. Distribution of weekly email newsletter and other notices. Scheduling of news posts on APHL social media platforms. Assist with development and redesign of membership marketing materials.
  2. Maintenance of Communications Platforms - Assist with maintenance of membership database (NetFORUM), intranet sites (SharePoint), website, member communications platform (ColLaborate, Higher Logic) and mailing lists. Track metrics for website and for member communications platform.
  3. Intern Project - Identify and complete at least one substantive project during the internship. The project will utilize knowledge, skills or abilities relevant to the intern’s future career.

Employment Standards- Education and Experience

The successful candidate will be a responsible individual who is able to think independently and complete assigned projects with limited supervision. The candidate will be well-organized, detail-oriented and quick to learn, with the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently. The candidate will work well in a team as well as independently, and be able to maintain a sense of humor in a busy work environment.

 

Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. Preference will be given to candidates majoring in marketing, communications or public health. At least one year of administrative or communications work experience is required.

Knowledge

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel). Basic knowledge of NetFORUM (or other AMS/CRM/Database), Higher Logic (or other online community) and SharePoint helpful.

Skills

Strong editing, proofreading and project management skills.

Abilities

Ability to learn and navigate new online platforms quickly, and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
