Internship Title: Auction Event Intern
Supervisor: Suzy Lee, Development Associate
Age Requirement: 18+
Shift times: 10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule during regular office hours
Time Commitment: minimum 3 month commitment
The Gala Auction Intern supports the Events Coordinator and Development team in the day-to-day functions of the department. Responsibilities include: Helping with item procurement for the auction, brainstorming creative and unique auction packages, and tracking procurement progress. Helping to brainstorm creative and new fundraising tactics for the night of the Gala. Making phone calls and sending emails to potential vendors, donors, guests, and sponsors. Helping with procurement packet mailings, invitation mailings, and other tasks. Helping to create and edit auction materials. Helping register guests for the event. Ensuring sponsor materials are received by due dates. Must be comfortable being flexible in day-to-day tasks, since responsibilities change based on necessary projects and changing deadlines.

The position will be a highly necessary part of the planning process for our Building the Beloved Community Gala and will be responsible for helping the Events Coordinator execute a well-planned, well-organized, well-run event that will raise essential funds for the 49 human services and programs that El Centro offers.
Must be enrolled or recently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and seeking an unpaid internship. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Windows. Must have work experience in an office environment and adhere to office protocol. Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and proof-reading skills. Previous experience working in events coordination or auction planning would be helpful. Willing to be flexible. Spanish speaking encouraged but not required.

The Gala Auction Intern will gain hands-on experience in an office setting and be able to apply their multi-tasking skills while maintaining a highly-organized system for several large projects ultimately leading to the largest fundraiser of the year at El Centro de la Raza. The intern will also gain insight into the structure of a non-profit development department and be an integral part of the planning and success of our Gala. During this process, the intern will learn how a successful auction fundraiser is planned and executed.
