The New York Foundling is one of the oldest and largest child welfare organization in New York City. Camp Felix is a sleepaway camp that takes place in August where we bring children and youth from Foundling's programs to participate in an adventure that changes their outlook on life and the future, as well as their sense of pride and self-confidence.
This summer, Camp Felix is offering rewarding and meaningful internship opportunities to students pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degrees in the human services field (social work, psychology, sociology, public health, etc). By joining our team, you will get to help our campers reach their full potential, spend time outdoors participating in a fun-filled camp program, receive a generous stipend, participate in the most current evidence-based training, receive hands-on experience working directly with children who are involved in various child welfare programs, and create meaningful career advancement and networking connections with mentors in the field of mental health, child abuse prevention, social work, advocacy, community education, administration, and more.
Camp Felix Interns will participate in 1 week (August 1-7) of training on topics including: therapeutic crisis intervention, child abuse/neglect, mandated reporter, bullying prevention, mental health, self-care, trauma-informed behavior management, and more.
Following training week, Camp Felix interns will work at our sleepaway camp Monday through Friday only (August 8-26) to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by delivering a safe, fun and enriching summer camp program that helps Camp Felix campers build positive relationships, learn new skills, improve their self-esteem and develop healthy habits. Interns will be assigned to a group of campers (groups range in age from 8 to 15) and will work as part of a team of other Counselors to supervise campers throughout all daily activities, build relationships with campers and help them connect with one another, participate in various camp activities with the campers (sports, arts, swim, etc), help manage conflicts and resolve difficult situations, help campers learn new skills, grow and develop self-esteem by providing positive reinforcement, guidance, and support.
Training location: Monday August 1 - Friday August 5th training will take place at 590 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan; training on Saturday Aug 6 - Sunday Aug 7 will take place at the campsite located in Sandyston, NJ (transportation will be provided).
Camp location: Camp Felix is located at 1 Flatbrook Rd in Sandyston, NJ. Bus transportation to/from NYC is provided each week.

Camp Felix Interns will receive weekly supervision and will have the opportunity to be paired with mentors from various New York Foundling programs and departments. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in many staff development programs, conferences, and workshops facilitated at the Foundling.
