OUR MISSION

We envision a world where the racist legal system has been dismantled and Black, Latiné, Indigenous, and other youth of color have the freedom and power to live their full lives. Our Mission is to use legal services, policy advocacy, peer education, and other tools to build power and opportunity for Black, Latiné, and other youth of color who the criminal legal system and other systems of oppression harm the most.

POSITION SUMMARY

Youth Represent is seeking a part-time Development Intern with a start date of Monday, July 8th.

The position will be a part of our growing fundraising efforts and will join Youth Represent at a pivotal time in our history, as we are embarking upon a five-year strategic plan. 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the candidate will support the execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy, providing the necessary tools to research a pipeline of foundation donors, corporate sponsors, and individual prospects to help Youth Represent achieve short- and long-term goals for our programs and activities. 

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and a deep interest in raising funds for innovative programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor Research 

  • Conduct prospect research on potential Individual, Foundation, and Corporate funding opportunities aligned with Youth Represent's mission and programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for donor meetings and communications.

Database Management:

  • Maintain the integrity of our CRM system, through duplication merges and consistent creation and updating 

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management:

  • Support in the cultivation and maintenance of donor relationships.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of engaging content for donor updates and acknowledgments.

Special Projects & Events 

  • Collaborate with the team to plan and execute fundraising campaigns and events, including executing communications and social media needs, creation of campaign materials, and sending donor emails.
  • Provide on-site support during events to ensure smooth operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A commitment to fundraising while centering racial justice, superb writing, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
  • Database management experience strongly preferred; Salesforce, Give Lively, Stripe, and iWave experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and research skills.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, work independently when needed, and set/adhere to deadlines
  • A personal approach that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance. 

WORKING REQUIREMENTS

  • This role is hybrid. Interns are expected to work in-person at our lower Manhattan office twice a week. 
  • Candidates must reside in New York City or the surrounding area.

COMPENSATION

  • Youth Represent supports school-based scholarships or stipends where available. However, where such opportunities are not available, interns shall receive $15 per hour.
