OVERVIEW

Location: Seattle, WA

Responsible to: Content Marketing Manager

Salary: This is a voluntary, unpaid position but the MSC will offer a stipend for expenses incurred on occasional business-related local travel.

Working Hours: This is a part-time internship of up to 20 hours per week, to be set during normal office hours of 9am to 5pm. If the selected intern is a current student, the MSC will work to accommodate class schedule and help to submit information to obtain course credit approval for the internship.   

Duration: Three – six months, subject to availability outside of the selected intern’s coursework schedule

SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP

The selected intern will play a supportive role to the US marketing and communications team, working on various marketing campaigns, assisting with social media, and creating and assisting with tradeshows and consumer-facing events. This is not an exhaustive list of potential tasks; the intern will be spearheading various projects and will be able to pitch related projects to expand their knowledge base and meet their professional development goals.


KEY TASKS

1/3 Content Marketing. Assist with multimedia content creation for ongoing and upcoming campaigns. Activities include ideation with the team and developing ideas for creative marketing toolkits, drafting newsletter copy, curating and adapting existing photo and video content for use on MSC digital channels, and updating and optimizing content for MSC consumer engagement campaigns.

1/3 Social Media. Activities include developing photo/video/graphic content for social media, drafting copy for posts, monitoring and responding to comments, interacting with partners on various platforms, and increasing MSC’s participation in any related conversations online.

1/3 Event Marketing. Assist with B2B and B2C events. Activities include coordinating development of marketing materials (info cards, promotional items, etc), curating and managing invite lists, assisting in the promotion of events, and managing logistics and run-of-show.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Current student or recent graduate in marketing, digital media/communications, or related subject
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative, creative, and goals-oriented
  • Self-starter and quick-learner
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Proficient with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and basic understanding of social media metrics
  • Some familiarity with social media and digital advertising platforms and scheduling tools
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite tools like InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Spark a bonus
  • A passion for using their skills to protect the world’s oceans
