Status: Internship, PT -25hrs/week, Temporary- Oct 11-Dec. 1, 2021

Location: Hybrid - Mosaic Office, 2251 Antietam Detroit, MI & Remote

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Fund Development Manager, and works with various stakeholders to assure attainment of organizational and individual goals.


Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit empowers young people to maximize their potential through professional performing arts training and the creation of theatrical and musical art that engages, transforms, and inspires. We are seeking a highly motivated person to serve as an Engagement Intern. The Engagement Intern is a valuable member of the Mosaic team, working closely with the Fund Development Managers who lead our Individual and Corporate relations. It would be a great fit for someone looking to learn more about community impact, nonprofits, and philanthropy. 


Projects

Community Engagement

  • Develop engagement strategies to build and enhance relationships in Russell Woods and neighboring communities.
  • Support the Fund Development Manager to plan, execute and evaluate community engagement and stewardship events.


Stewardship & Communications 

  • Design a Giving Tuesday social media campaign to expand the Mosaic family of supporters.
  • Develop the content of an impact report to share with stakeholders by researching best practices and impact statements from comparable organizations.
  • Compare digital campaigns to prior years and comparable organizations and make recommendations for improvement.
  •  Assist in creating alumni, participant, donor, and partner spotlight profiles.


AIP Learning and Enrichment Sessions

Interns are required to participate in four roundtables with their AIP cohort during the internship. Please find additional information on AIP and the learning and enrichment sessions attached.


Required Qualifications

  • Interest in communications and storytelling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Champion of details and accuracy!
  • Self-starter, confident in asking questions
  • Flexibility and positivity when working in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Google Suite
  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in a Southeast Michigan College or University
  • Sophomore year or higher (equivalent)


Desired Qualifications

  • Interest in community engagement is a plus
  • Interest in arts administration or nonprofit careers is a plus


Conditions/Access:

  • Work will be approximately 75% virtual, 25% in person.
  • Any in-person work will follow our COVID guidelines. Masks must be worn at all times.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands, turn, sit, bend, go up and down stairs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Some travel required for engagement activities
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.
  • Some heavy lifting and moving of supplies.
  • While performing the duties of this job, team member may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies.

Benefits

A key goal of the Applebaum Internship Program (AIP) is to provide unique learning and networking opportunities with community and peer leaders. The aim of the engagement opportunities is to inform, connect, and network students with different ideas, leaders, individuals, and organizations to inspire leadership advancement.

Auxiliary learning and enrichment opportunities are integral components of the internship. Students will engage in four, virtual roundtable discussions with their cohort of AIP peers from participating organizations. Applebaum Family Philanthropy (AFP) organizes, hosts, and moderates sessions.


Session Include

Wednesday, October 13, 2021 @ 2:30-3:30pm

Focus: Interns will develop an understanding of the other organizations, their mission, and upcoming projects.


Tuesday, October 26,2021 @ 2:30-3:30pm

Focus: Interns will learn about the Applebaum Fellows Program, what it means to be a participant and what continued engagement looks like. Students will meet representatives from AFP including Pamela Applebaum (President, The Eugene & Marcia Applebaum Family Foundation) and Andrew Echt (Director, AFP.)


Wednesday, November 10, 2021 @ 2:30-3:30pm

Focus: Interns will learn about the non-profit industry in Detroit through the lens of the people and organizations that are involved and help the city to thrive. Guests include Industry professionals from participating host organizations.


Wednesday, November 17, 2021 @ 2:30-3:30pm

Focus: Interns hear from leading executives in organizations who are changemakers and storytellers for Detroit. Sharing their professional leadership story and own wisdom, students will learn where they started, where they are today, and how they got there. Guests include executives and CEOs from participating host organizations.


Virtual Cohort

Students will be asked to join a private AIP Fall 2021 LinkedIn Group. Here, students will be encouraged to share their experiences, projects, and resources, ask questions and connect in a virtual space. AFP will moderate and pose questions to encourage sharing of interesting articles, podcasts, events in the area and facts about the respective participating organizations.
