Position Title:               Community Engagement Intern –RRCRC Food Security Social Enterprises

Reports to:                     MarketMobile Project Officer/Opportunity & Inclusion Team lead

Job Type:                         Three month short-term contract, part-time (30 hours/week)

Training period:          February 26 – March 16 (90 hours)

Start date:                     March 18^th , 2021

End date:                        May 27^th , 2021

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the OGFB and MM Project Officers, the Community Engagement intern will interact with customers and partner organizations in order to improve customer experiences, assess common needs and inform improvements to RRCRC’s food security services.

As an OGFB and MM project intern, you will gain customer service skills, administrative skills, strategic planning skills as well as knowledge of food insecurity and community development principles.

You will receive 90 hours of paid pre-employment training and access to Incubator13’s resources for continuous professional development.

ELIGIBILITY

You can apply if you meet the following criteria to become a participant of the Youth Job Connection – CORE program hosted by the Youth Service Bureau: 

• Be between the ages of 18 and 29 years old;
• Be unemployed
• Be a resident of Ontario and eligible to work
• Not enrolled in full-time education or training
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a newcomer with a work permit (without restrictions);
• Not have an active service plan with another Employment Ontario service provider
• Provide a Police Check
• Have a registered Social Insurance Number (SIN).

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

A.     Customer service

•  Customer service (online & in-person at markets)
•  Assist with loading of trucks & market set-up
•  Assist customers with phone-in orders and requests for home deliveries.
• Engage with customers & partner organizations to gain feedback (ex: creation of survey

B.     Assess community needs

• Document feedback and assess commonalities
• Develop new ideas on how to improve customer engagement & retention
• Share feedback with Project Officers in easy-to-understand format

C.     Other duties

• Additional tasks may be required
• Work closely with Project Logistics Officer and MM Project Officer
• Report regularly to MM Project Officer and as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A.     Knowledge:

• Post-secondary education and/or experience in community development and/or sociology (desirable)
• Experience with customer service
• Knowledge of local food systems and principles of food security
• Knowledge of issues and challenges facing low income and diverse communities
• Clear understanding of issues of poverty, diversity and marginalization

B.     Competencies:

• Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media  MailChimp, Hootsuite, and Canva
• Access to a computer with Microsoft Office Suite and reliable internet
• Access to a personal cell phone
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
• Ability to work in-person from RRCRC’s location at 815 St. Laurent, as well as remotely
• Fluency in both English and French is required
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and lift 50 lbs
