About Oakland Natives Give Back Fund, Inc. (ONGB)

ONGB was founded in 2008. Driven by our mission is to address the most pressing social ills of the day by funding, creating, and incubating innovative programs, experiences, and partnerships that empower the next generation of high-achieving citizens, locally and globally. For the first several years, ONGB’s primary event was the annual Back to School Rally at Oakland City Hall, which provided fully loaded backpacks and school supplies to underserved children in Oakland at no cost. Since 2008, ONGB has grown to provide year-round programs geared toward equity for girls and increasing outcomes in education for all.

Job Purpose

The Achievement Coach is a position that will support ONGB’s Back and On-Track Program (BOTP). This is an internship position with an expected work week of 20 hours. ONGB’s BOTP aims to increase daily high-school attendance rates across ten local school district high schools. The Achievement Coach will provide case management support for a caseload of 50 to 70 students. This includes creating student educational plans, fostering attendance learning communities, and providing attendance programming support. The Achievement Coach will establish a weekly meeting cadence with students and intervene with attendance barriers. The Achievement Coach may be asked to assist with student resume writing, college application materials, and referrals to support service. The Achievement Coach will submit weekly progress reports for their caseload and is expected to engage students on a regular basis. This may look like participating in communication channels (Slack, Google Hangouts), facilitating weekly attendance support sessions via Zoom, and managing program social media accounts. Selection for this internship will occur on a rolling basis.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Achievement Coach performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

1. Provide group and individual coaching and support to BOTP students, with a primary focus being daily attendance. Coaching will take place through in-depth video, Slack/Hangouts, and email exchanges with students and parents. Some home visits may be required

2. Assist with outreach.

3. Assess and triage holistic needs that BOTP students may have, including needs related to academic and socio-emotional success

4. Maintain records of all training, presentations, referrals, and services to students in the database.

5. Conduct surveys and create reports

6. Provide support to BOTP Achievement Coordinators as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

 3+ years of experience working with youth and families.

 Capacity to balance multiple and varied tasks, meet deadlines, and use well-developed time management and organizational skills

 Experience with Canvas.

 Knowledge of Zoom, Google Hangouts, Slack, and other communication tools.

 Ability to follow company protocols and policies as it relates to working with youth.

 Ability to complete program documentation consistently, professionally, and on time.

 Ability to respond to program support requests from students, parents, or other team members within 24 hours.

 Committed to program goals and student needs.

 Understands the importance of being a team player and taking feedback from students, parents, and team members.

 Ability to provide technical support to students and parents as needed.

 Ability to work flexible work hours.

 Ability to satisfactorily pass a background screening and fingerprinting clearance

 Current TB Test (within 2 years) or ability to attain within 30 days of employment

 Valid California Driver's License, access to the use of a reliable automobile, and current automobile registration and insurance.

 Be a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or foreign national possessing a visa permitting permanent residence in the U.S. (Alien Registration or "Green Card"). Student visas and temporary work visas do not qualify.

 Bilingual not required, but preferred.

relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

Working Conditions

 Achievement Coaches usually work in the office, but there may be some opportunities to work remotely occasionally. The nature of programs will require them also to attend meetings and events at schools, the OUSD office, etc.

 Achievement Coaches work during ONGB business hours but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor program activities.

 Achievement Coaches should be able to lift and carry boxes up to 30 lbs.
