Harboring Hearts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit seeking a virtual intern to support our work. Harboring Hearts is currently affiliated with 8 partner hospitals across New York: NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, The Mount Sinai Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, Westchester Medical Center & New York University Hospital. 

We work closely with our partner social workers to identify patients and families who are experiencing serious hardship during transplant or cardiac surgery treatment and extend support to meet their specific, immediate needs. Our community events (all of which are now virtual) provide emotional support and respite, and foster meaningful connections among heart patients and their families. 

This position will require 10 hours per week for either 6 months or 1 year (depending on the candidate availability).

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Goals

  1. Manage Harboring Hearts Social Media Accounts & Strategy
  2. Assist in implementing & evaluating the Emergency Fund program
  3. Assist in community event planning and implementation.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Manage Harboring Hearts Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages
  • Develop and implement social media strategy to increase awareness and ultimate support of our work
  • Support Emergency Fund tracking to monitor and evaluate the program
  • Potentially interact with partner social workers to maintain and build on existing relationships
  • Help plan virtual events for Harboring Hearts families
  • Assist with other projects as needed 


SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently in a remote work setting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong professional judgment and a resourceful entrepreneurial spirit
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Strong Social Media experience
  • Able to represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Comfortable working in a small non profit remote environment 
  • Genuinely interested in both non-profit work and compassionately assisting heart patients and their families
  • Graduate student or recent graduate of social work, public health, or healthcare administration strongly preferred
  • Experience in non-profit work with an emphasis on health or social work preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language a plus


This internship pays $300 per month and can be used to fulfill credit hours for an approved graduate school program.
