The Phoenix's mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. Through activities such as CrossFit, climbing, hiking, yoga, boxing, and meditation, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. The Phoenix offers free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety, operating in 46 communities across the country and for people around the globe virtually. Since 2006, we have served 40,000 individuals. 

The Rise Fellowship Program aims to increase equity in the nonprofit and recovery spaces, so we recruit applicants from diverse communities, particular people of color.

 

ABOUT THE FELLOW

Do you thrive in startup environments characterized by innovation, quick pivots, and nimble collaboration? Do you have advanced data analysis skills and the ability to communicate complex research findings to a broad audience? Are you passionate about using these skills to address social challenges? If so, this might be the fellowship for you. The Research and Evaluation Fellow can work remotely from anywhere in the country and will assist our Evaluation Manager in the following ways:

  • Conducting literature reviews on topics related to substance use disorder recovery support
  • Drafting proposals to generate research into the benefits of adding Phoenix's Sober Active Community model to treatment and reentry programs
  • Facilitating data collection conducted through collaborations with external research partners

Additionally, the Research and Evaluation Fellow will clean and analyze evaluation data and assist with creating publications and presentations to desalinate research and evaluation findings.

 

STRENGTHS AND QUALIFICATIONS WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Exceptional research and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of quantitative research design and experimental methods
  • Experience conducting research involving human participants in an applied setting
  • Master's degree, preferably in psychology, social work, public health or related behavior science field  
  • A personal connection to our mission
  • Availability to start in either January or June
