Compensation: $15 per hour

Location: Washington, D.C.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is the leading advocacy organization to reduce tobacco use and its deadly consequences around the world. Through strategic communications and policy advocacy campaigns, we promote the adoption of proven solutions that are most effective at reducing tobacco use and save the most lives.

The International Communications intern will join a fast-paced team charged with developing, implementing and supporting media advocacy campaigns aimed at tobacco control policy progress in low- and middle-income countries. The selected candidate will be expected to assist on both substantive and administrative projects – and will have the opportunity to learn about global policy advocacy campaigns and effective media advocacy strategies. The international communications intern will report to the Manager of International Communications.

Primary Duties:

  • Draft communication materials including press releases, media memos, blog posts and social media content.
  • Monitor and compile international media clips related to ongoing policy work.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar for the communication team.
  • Work with the communications team to research, identify and contact key media contacts in priority countries
  • Provide administrative and research support as needed.

Skills Required:

  • Strong interest in Public Relations, Public Affairs and/or International Relations.
  • Interest in the global media landscape and what shapes news stories
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing and proofing with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Working to complete a College degree in communications, media or related field required or recent graduate.
