Organization

Global Family Care Network was established with the belief that long-term alternative care for at-risk and abandoned children is best practiced within the structure of a family. Global Family operates community-based prevention programs, short-term residential rehabilitation shelters, and aftercare programs for victims of human trafficking and systematic abuse. The center for Child Protection and Evidence-Based Anti-Human Trafficking Practice in Scotland is looking for interns to contribute to Global Family’s work around the world. Learn more about Global Family at www.globalfamilyuk.co.uk.

Description

Global Family is looking for two Technical Assistance Research Interns to pilot and launch an online platform for tools and materials developed for practitioners. The goal of this project is to provide evidence-based and proven technical assistance to practitioners who work in child protection, prevention of modern slavery, rehabilitation of victims, and the provision of alternative long-term care for children. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate on and contribute towards a groundbreaking project that will not only synthesize existing evidence, but also fill a gap in the resources that practitioners in this field need on a day-to-day basis. Targeted practitioners include individuals who work and/or contribute to interventions that seek to prevent modern slavery, reduce the incidence and prevalence of modern slavery, protect children and preserve families, or provide rehabilitative or reintegrative services to victims of modern slavery (including social, legal, medical, psychotherapeutic, social protection, and economic services). Modern slavery may include human trafficking for the purpose of labor and/or sexual exploitation; forced, labor, and child labor; child marriage; and debt bondage. This project will develop and implement an innovative solution to the everyday needs of practitioners in the implementation of their work. Resources that interns may be collecting and reviewing might include screening tools, shelter intake procedures, trainings, curricula, program statements, behavioral health tools, and tools for monitoring and evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head of Programs, other research staff, and web development staff to develop an online platform for technical assistance.

• Conduct an initial scoping review of technical resources that have been created for practitioners, including a literature review and a review of key agencies and resources.

• Develop a list and description of major categories of resources and key indicators for research usage (for example, source, date created, countries implemented, target audience, evaluations conducted, description of effectiveness, and proposed/realized outcomes).

• In consultation with the Head of Programs, research staff, and external consultations, develop a draft quality appraisal tool which can be used for the assessment of the effectiveness of included resources.
