Stony Kill Foundation oversees the daily operations and community programming at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Wappingers Falls, NY. Our mission is to educate the public and cultivate environmental stewardship through interpretation of the rich historical, environmental and agricultural heritage of Stony Kill Farm. Thousands of people visit the 1000-acre farm each year, participating in our signature environmental education programs, growing fruits and veggies in the community garden, hiking the trails, and enjoying the outdoors. Job Description

We are looking for 1-2 Interns to join our energetic education team at the farm. Environmental Education/Farm Interns contribute to the planning, preparation, and delivery of our many education programs including field trips, workshops and seasonal events. These 3 – 6 month positions will begin in September 2021 and are well suited for those who enjoy the outdoors and have a talent for teaching and inspiring curiosity in others!

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Lead environmental and agricultural activities and lessons for fall/winter school field trips and homeschool programs.
  • Assist with seasonal event planning and preparation which will include research, creating activities and themes, and compiling materials.
  • Run activities for birthday parties, scout events, and tours at the farm.
  • Assist with farm tasks including feeding animals, mucking barn, restocking feed, organizing barn areas, general cleanup, moving hay bales and equipment, etc.

Additional Responsibilities Based on Skills & Interests May Include:

  • Complete a project (to be arranged with the intern’s supervisor). Examples of past projects:
  • Plan and present a walk or program on a particular topic
  • Design and construct an exhibit
  • Develop new lesson plans and teaching activity materials
  • Write a seasonal trail guide
  • Research, develop & implement new education programs and workshops
  • Database entry and general office tasks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Background in teaching, environmental sciences, or related.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, explore, and teach!
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus.
  • Experience with performance/virtual field trips/social media a plus.

Additional Details:

  • Pay rate: $13.50/hour for 20 - 25 hours/week (additional hours may become available)
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Housing not provided.

Stony Kill Foundation takes our responsibility to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 very seriously. In-person programming conducted at Stony Kill during the pandemic follows guidelines set by New York State and the Centers for Disease Control to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Staff are required to abide by mask wearing and social distancing guidelines and become vaccinated for COVID-19. Applicants will be expected to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination prior to their start date.
