INTRODUCTION

The Partnership for Public Service is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a big mission: we’re working to ensure the federal government is dynamic, innovative and that it effectively serves the American people. We’ve got a great team that helps make it happen.

Our staff is diverse in experience and perspective, but at our core, we share a lot of the same traits. We are mission-driven, creative, collaborative, optimistic and inclusive.

Our work is strategic, fast-paced and guided by our values:

  • Passion for public service and our work toward a more effective government
  • People who promote a culture of learning, leadership, collaboration, inclusion and respect
  • Persistence to drive change, take strategic risks and deliver results
  • Promise to be trustworthy, nonpartisan and fiscally responsible

We hire smart and friendly people who are great at what they do and good to one another in the process. Are you ready to join our team?

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

You may only submit one internship application per term. Applicants submitting more than one application per term will not be considered. If you have a strong interest in multiple teams, you may indicate your alternate team preferences later in the application. Please note that selecting multiple teams does not increase your likelihood of being selected for an internship.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The government affairs team is the Partnership’s voice on Capitol Hill, working to advance the organization’s good government agenda by building bridges of understanding between federal agencies and Congress, advocating for a modernization of America’s civil service system and sharing the Partnership’s work with committees, members and their staff.

Interns on the government affairs team will follow Hill activity related to our core initiatives of civil service modernization, while helping deliver content to congressional staff and agency employees with the goal of improving understanding between branches of government. Interns will also assist with our new initiative, the Alliance for Congress, to help restore Congress as a co-equal branch of government. The Government Affairs team offers interns the opportunity to become more informed about the legislative process and the policies and practices of the federal government.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, teamwork and time management skills, flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and a commitment to public service.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position typically reports to a manager or associate manager.

This job operates in a professional office environment in Washington, DC. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner. Please note that as a result of COVID-19, Partnership staff are currently working remotely.

We are planning for the DC based position to be hybrid work based in Washington, DC (a combination of remote work and some in-person office work or events), depending on specific team needs. Needs will be discussed during the interview stage of the hiring process.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Business hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, though exact work hours may vary depending on availability and need. Academic schedules will be accommodated; a part-time schedule may be considered. There may be occasional early morning or evening activities required.
