Intern, Knowledge Mobilisation, EatSafe (Part Time)

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking an Intern to support the EatSafe programme’s global activities including influencing, communications and project management.

This is for a 4-month, part time (16-24 hours per week) internship from the beginning of January 2022 through April 2022 based out of GAIN’s Washington, DC office.

About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the role

EatSafe: Evidence and Action Towards Safe, Nutritious Food is a five-year project of Feed the Future, funded by USAID. This project aims to enable lasting improvements in the safety of nutritious foods in traditional markets in low and middle- income countries (LMICs) with its critical focus on the consumer. Leads on this project implement and test interventions to substantially improve food safety, working with vendors and creating consumer demand for safe nutritious foods.

The intern will support the EatSafe program’s global activities including influencing, communications, and project management. This role will help the EatSafe team to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Specific Responsibilities include;

  • Working with the EatSafe global and country teams to synthesize GAIN programmatic and sector-wide learnings to guide decision making and promote learning within the programme
  • Reviewing bodies of work created by EatSafe team and producing concise one-pagers summarizing key takeaways
  • Supporting the EatSafe dissemination strategy by assisting with social media posts and public engagement
  • Supporting EatSafe Knowledge Mobilisation and Communications strategies by coordinating with staff to properly track and update deliverables through knowledge management systems
  • Assisting with the synthesis of lessons learned in preparation for a design workshop for phase II EatSafe activities.

​About you

You should be a self-starter able to show initiative and to liaise with a range of partners. You should also possess excellent communications skills, have an interest in food safety and international development, and be fully literate with Microsoft Office. In addition, you should be educated to degree level in Food Science, Food Systems, Food Safety, Agriculture or in another related field.
