About the position: Communications Intern

We are seeking a Part-Time Communications Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will be a part of FrameWorks’ communications team and our work to engage the advocacy community and extend the reach and impact of FrameWorks’ products and recommendations. This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career professional with interest in social justice communications and a commitment to equity and social change.

The Communications Intern will support the team by assisting with staff presentations and webinars, designing social media graphics and editing videos, helping build email marketing campaigns, participating in strategy and planning meetings with the communications team, and helping to maintain and update the organization’s website. While the position is designed for early-career professionals, we are open to considering candidates with varying levels of experience and training.

The ideal candidate will be technically savvy, intellectually curious, creative, insightful, informed about contemporary policy issues, committed to realizing social justice and equity, interested in science-translation, and has strong design skills.

This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) based in Washington, DC. Due to Covid, all work will be conducted virtually until at least Winter 2021. This internship will last a minimum of 3 months, which may be extended for an additional 3 months.

Key responsibilities

·      Design and produce content within the FrameWorks brand, including social media graphics, presentation materials, and video editing.

·      Participate in strategy discussions with the communications team.

·      Assist with scheduling and recording of webinars and research sessions on Zoom.

·      Provide technical support to staff during online workshops and web presentations.

·      Post to FrameWorks’ social media accounts on Twitter and LinkedIn.

·      Help build email campaigns, including formatting HTML email.

·      Upload content to FrameWorks’ website.

·      Assist with maintaining and providing technical support for FrameWorks’ learning platform, FrameWorks Academy.


Skills needed

·      Strong design skills and ability to create content within a defined brand style.

·      Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software, especially: Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, Audition

·      Familiarity uploading and managing content using WordPress CMS (or similar).

·      Foundational knowledge of HTML.

·      Experience in scheduling and providing technical support within Zoom.

·      Strong writing skills—social media copywriting experience is a plus.

·      Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, partner-oriented setting

·      Good organizational and time-management skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization and get things done; practical judgment to move work forward; flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs

Experience required

The ideal candidate will possess:

·      Strong interest in communications and marketing for nonprofits.

·      Commitment to progressive social change.

·      Attention to detail and a knack for organization.

·      1-2 years’ experience designing and creating original content, which may include work done as part of a school curriculum.

·      At least a 2-year degree with focus in Marketing, Communications, Digital, Design & Production, or similar areas.

·      Experience with social media for an organization.

·      Video editing experience is a plus.

·      Experience with social change organizations is a plus.

·      MacOS; Microsoft Word + Excel; Google Apps (Mail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Drive).

Compensation

This is a paid internship. The Communications Intern will receive $22-25/hour. At every level within the organization’s personnel structure, FrameWorks’ salaries are competitive with similar DC-based nonprofits of our size.
