Who We Are:
Angel Flight West is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs. Our network of 1,400+ pilots throughout the 13 western states donate their aircraft, piloting skills, and all flying costs to help families in need, enabling them to receive vital treatment that might otherwise be inaccessible because of financial, medical, or geographic limitations.
Angel Flight West is offering a part-time(10-20 hrs), unpaid spring internship with the mission operations team supporting ongoing operational needs of AFW. Successful candidate will be offered a 35 hour-a-week paid position for the summer. This is a great opportunity to gain insight and experience in the non-profit and public health fields. The mission operations intern will work collaboratively and directly with a small team of dedicated coordinators arranging non-emergency air transportation for people in need of health care or other compelling needs. The internship is located at AFW headquarters in Santa Monica.
The ideal candidate will be mission-driven and able to join a dedicated team of coordinators who are passionate about removing transportation as a barrier to health and hope. The eventual paid summer position will require the intern to support the day-to-day operational workload with emphasis on coordinating 400+ camp flights for kids with special needs. This internship allows the opportunity to work closely with other non-profit organizations and major healthcare facilities. There will be an opportunity to fly with an AFW pilot on major camp dates with an additional staff member to help with ground control. Intern will be a part of major summer fundraising event as well.
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills - Telephone and written communications with healthcare professionals, volunteer pilots, and people from a wide variety of social and economic backgrounds in need of our services.
High level of computer competency - Well-rounded proficiency with Microsoft Office(Word & Outlook), internet savvy, and data entry/management duties.
Proven attention to detail - Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively. Works well under pressure when workload demands and able to meet timelines.
