HOURS & SALARY: 10 hours/week, flexible schedule Mon – Fri, hours between 8am to 5pm

This is an unpaid internship. Can be used for college credit.

DATES: Summer 2020 (July-September; start and end dates are flexible.)

REPORTS TO: Communications Coordinator

BACKGROUND

Pike Place Market Foundation nurtures a thriving Market community so that everyone within it has the opportunity to live their best life possible. Established in 1982, the Market Foundation has granted more than $31 Million to provide housing, healthcare, healthy food, childcare and a community of support to our most vulnerable neighbors. Over the past 37 years, The Market Foundation has contributed to a neighborhood model that allows a diverse community to live and thrive at Seattle’s historic Market.

The Market Commons is a welcoming and inclusive neighborhood center established by the Pike Place Market Foundation. We are here to help our community access information about the vital services in and around the Market, and provide a place for community members to connect and build relationships.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Media Intern is an opportunity to help manage and implement social media communications strategies and help create content for Facebook and Instagram for The Market Commons. This role will allow you to connect with the Market community, learn about community-based social programming, and help develop communications strategies and content that align with program mission and values. This position may also help promote events and programs hosted by The Market Commons and The Market Foundation.

This is an unpaid internship and is intended for college credit. Please refer to your school’s policies, requirements and process for credit eligibility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Help manage, create, and implement content for the social media pages at The Market Commons and possibly The Market Foundation as well.

·       Collaborate with staff to help develop and then implement social media strategy

·       Source articles and studies related to The Commons’ work and the Social Determinants of Health to develop into social media content, staying up to date on current events.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

·       Interest in digital and social media and how to maximize optimization

·       Proficient in social media platforms, strategies and campaigns

·       Photography skills and knowledge of graphic design programs preferred.

·       Preference given to applicants who have demonstrated nonprofit experience or interest.

·       Ability to be proactive and work independently with a “can-do attitude”.

·       Professional and courteous demeanor at all times with public, donors and co-workers.
