As the free online encyclopedia of Washington state history, HistoryLink.org is the largest encyclopedia of state history created expressly for the Internet. We are dedicated to the principle that history belongs to the entire community and that a better understanding of past events can improve public debate and decisions and enrich the lives of individuals.

We provide a free, authoritative, and easily accessible reference for the benefit of all. With a few noted exceptions, all 7,000+ articles on this site are original works prepared exclusively for HistoryLink.org by historians, contract writers, volunteers, and consulting experts.

We are in the midst of a project to replace all low-quality images on the site with high-quality versions. With over 20,000 images sourced from over 700 libraries and collections, we are looking for an intern to work with HistoryLink.org's digital media editor to help track down and update all of our low-quality images.

Each summer, HistoryLink prepares for its annual fundraiser, HistoryLunch, in September. This position will also support office staff in preparation for HistoryLunch.

Database review: Review a spreadsheet that includes all images with titles, keywords, filenames, image sources, and image numbers (when known). Review image numbers to ensure they were extracted correctly from the image's source information and locate correct image numbers when needed.

Finding Images: Use source and image number information to search for and download higher-quality images. This will usually involve searching for the image by number or subject on the source library's online archives. Some images will be easy to track down and some will require substantial investigating.

Image Editing: Edit newly found, high-quality images to our basic design requirements (cropping, color balance, and light balance). Match image file names with the file names in our database and save into a shared folder for review and upload.

Process Review: Discuss with our digital media editor any ideas for improving the process.

HistoryLunch Support: Support staff with mailings, proofreading/editing of online and printed materials, and preparation of event materials.

- An interest in digital media management or research
