Internship Cycle: Fall 2018


Paid / Unpaid: This is an unpaid internship, but full class credit can be provided in coordination with faculty.


Intern Title: Government Relations & Advocacy Intern


Weekly Hours Required: 20


Position Description: The Government Relations & Advocacy (GRA) department seeks a motivated undergraduate intern who is currently studying Political Science or Liberal Arts. The intern will be responsible for supporting the two person department on a variety of housing policy issues. Projects include, but are not limited to: tracking and conducting follow-up communications regrading relevant legislation, policy research and database maintenance. The incumbent intern may also be asked to attend legislative hearings and briefings.

           The intern will also assist the department’s manager in coordinating two important legislative advocacy campaigns; a City Council day and an Albany day.


Desired Education Level: Undergraduate


Desired Area of Study: Political Science or Liberal Arts


Required & Preferred Skills: Students should have basic knowledge of City, State, and federal government. The intern will be expected to know Microsoft Office Suite and extract information for short and long briefings.


Additional Information: The incumbent intern will have an opportunity to apply for a scholarship for Habitat on the Hill. Habitat on the Hill is an annual national conference hosted by Habitat for Humanity International in DC during the month of February to discuss advocacy, housing, and meet with members of Congress. 


About the Department: The Advocacy and Government Relations department is tasked with building relationship with elected officials and community organizations. We are responsible for the organization’s legislative agenda, implementations of advocacy campaigns, and briefing internal stakeholders on government partnership.
