Organization

Global Family Care Network was established with the belief that long-term alternative care for at-risk and abandoned children is best practiced within the structure of a family. Global Family operates community-based prevention programs, short-term residential rehabilitation shelters, and aftercare programs for victims of human trafficking and systematic abuse. The center for Child Protection and Evidence-Based Anti-Human Trafficking Practice in Scotland is looking for interns to contribute to Global Family’s work around the world. Description

Global Family is looking for an Intervention Effectiveness Research Intern to engage in research on the effectiveness of interventions that address modern slavery in Global Family’s current and future program countries. Interventions of interest include those related to modern slavery policies and programs that seek to prevent modern slavery, reduce the incidence or prevalence of modern slavery, or provide rehabilitative or reintegrative services to victims of modern slavery (including social, legal, medical, psychotherapeutic, social protection, and economic services). Modern slavery may include human trafficking for the purpose of labor and/or sexual exploitation; forced, bonded, and child labor; child marriage; and debt bondage. This intern will produce research with the goal of improving the effectiveness of Global Family’s programs, creating content for United Kingdom-based trainings for students and global workers, and contributing to the wider evidence base on modern slavery. Reports and studies produced will be published on Global Family’s website and may be submitted for journal publication.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head of Programs and other research staff members to develop and review research on intervention effectiveness.

• Develop and continually update a compendium of resources, including published studies, grey literature, and relevant reports for each project country (United States, Canada, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, the Maldives, El Salvador).

• Develop a quality appraisal tool for included resources and assign resources a score based on the quality of their methodology, research question, reliability of results, and other appropriate measures.

• Develop a matrix of interventions and their outcomes with a note on specific components that were evaluated to be effective.

• Develop literature reviews, systematic reviews, and other reports related to evidence collected.

• Communicate findings of research to the Head of Programs and other team members to improve Global Family programs and approaches and to contribute content to UK trainings for students and organizations.

• Write and submit studies for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
