Are you passionate about humanist activism and secular social justice? If so, you may be a good fit for the American Humanist Association’s social justice internship. This is a great opportunity to support the organization’s current work advancing humanist values and creating an inclusive humanist community, while gaining professional experience in writing, programming, and activism.

The social justice programming  intern will:

  • Research current events and outreach opportunities relevant to our social justice initiatives
  • Aid with contact and follow-up with individuals, groups, and organizations engaged in humanist and social justice activism
  • Draft educational materials on humanism and social justice issues
  • Facilitate portions of our Humanism for All Prisoner’s Project
  • Pitch and write articles for theHumanist.com
  • Create digital media related to our adjunct groups, including the LGBTQ Humanist Alliance, the Feminist Humanist Alliance, the Latinx Humanist Alliance and the Black Humanist Alliance
  • Other duties related to assisting the policy and social justice department, and other staff members of the AHA office as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Interest in advancing social justice from a secular vantage point
  • Intersectional understanding of cultural prejudices and oppression 
  • Familiarity with current social issues, including (but not limited to) race, gender, sexuality, wealth, and disability
  • Strong writing and communications skills
  • Applicants should be enthusiastic, organized, self-motivated, and reliable

Time Commitment: Between 20 and 30 hours per week, flexible schedule. Due to COVID-19, this internship will be remote, and eligible candidates will need access to reliable internet and a computer during business hours
