The Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem (NDS) is a community-based, client-centered, holistic public defense office located in Harlem, providing civil, criminal and family representation to residents of Northern Manhattan. NDS seeks to hire a legal intern for the Spring of 2019 for our Immigration Defense Practice.
As part of NDS’ commitment to community-based representation the Immigration Defense Practice works to prevent the destabilizing impacts that stem from housing instability through representation of Northern Manhattan residents. Activities will include client intake, legal research on questions of criminal/immigration law and direct client representation.
NDS is looking for law student interns with a demonstrated commitment to immigration defense and social justice issues. In addition, the internship requires energy, enthusiasm, a commitment to excellence and an unwavering commitment to clients. Applicants must:
· Have completed at least 1 year of relevant legal education;
· Have completed immigration coursework, clinical experience or internship;
· Foreign language fluency, especially Spanish is highly desirable.
