Teaching Residents at Teachers College (TR@TC) is a federally funded 18-month graduate-level teaching residency program that will lead to New York State dual certification for grades 7-12 and a Master's degree.

Based on the TR@TC program you complete, you will have dual certification in one of the following content areas and grade combinations:

  • Intellectual Disability/Autism - Adolescence 
  • Special Education (Adolescence) & English Language Arts (7-12)
  • Special Education (Adolescence) & Social Studies (7-12)
  • Mathematics Education
  • Mathematics (7-12) & Special Education (Adolescence)
  • Science Education (Teaching Biology, Teaching Chemistry, Teaching Earth Science)
  • Science (7-12) & Special Education (Adolescence)
  • Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages - TESOL
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (PK-12) & English Language Arts (7-12)
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (PK-12) & Special Education (7-12)

TR@TC stands out with its multilayered support system consisting of a residency cohort, mentor teachers, residency supervisors, two years of induction mentoring, and supplemental funding to support early career teachers.

Benefits

Residents are provided with a $30,000 living stipend that they can use for living expenses or the remaining Teachers College tuition cost.

The above stipend will be awarded in four equal installments of $7,500 beginning in the program's first semester. Please note that funding does not extend into the final fifth semester of the program.

Residents typically receive the dollar equivalent of 22 Teachers College credit hours in the form of a stipend. At the current 2021-2022 tuition rate, this totals $40,458

The above stipend will be awarded in four equal installments of the dollar equivalent of 5.5 credit hours beginning in the program's first semester. Please note that funding does not extend into the final fifth semester of the program.
