Internship Overview

As a Solar Partnerships and Just Transition Research Intern, you will be an integral member of Solar One’s Here Comes Solar (HCS) team. You will work closely and receive mentorship from the Solar Researcher and Program Manager. You will join HCS team meetings and be invited to Solar One internal and external events, providing you with broad exposure to Solar One’s work and expanding your professional network. You will receive training specific to the projects that you are working on from your supervisor, in addition to general training regarding solar technology, system design, economics, policy, installation/workforce, and more.

HCS was established to make solar more accessible and affordable for New Yorkers. We work with local partners to organize and support community-based solar projects. HCS is committed to expand our technical assistance programs through partnerships, research, and implementation of multi-scale solar

projects in low- and moderate-income communities. Our work targets the high-barrier sectors of the solar industry – affordable housing, multifamily buildings, and community solar – and provide technical

assistance to make the process simple and easy for anyone. We partner with community-based organizations and other nonprofits to make our program available to those who can benefit from our services most.

As the Solar Partnerships and Just Transition Research intern, you will assess the impact of our work and gain firsthand experience educating New Yorkers about the benefits of solar technology. You will assist in a qualitative research on how HCS programs energize climate and environmental justice actions and polices for a just transition to a carbon free economy. You assist in the research study through conducting interviews and have the opportunity to interact directly with policymakers, community partners, clients, and local residents. Additionally, you will help expand our partnerships and outreach to local groups throughout New York City.

This internship is currently planned to be a virtual internship, however, pending the public health situation, there may be optional opportunities for interns to meet with supervisor and visit completed solar installations, or to shadow solar site assessments in New York City.
