DESCRIPTION

Bright Star Schools will hire up to three full-time interns. Interns will be assigned to school clusters (Valley, Koreatown, Mid-City). This full-time assignment is four days per week; part-time assignments are offered with specific special circumstances and the assignment is two days per week. Interns will be assigned to two (2) separate sites with different supervisors at each site to get a breadth of experience. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Complete Psycho-educational assessments (including but not limited to initial evaluations, triennial evaluations, manifestation determinations, functional behavioral assessments, social-emotional evaluations, etc.)


Present assessment results at IEP meetings.


Provide support and consultation to teachers, staff, and administrators


Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling services to students individually and/or in groups


Provide crisis intervention including suicide and threat assessments


Support staff in the SSPT process, developing and implementing academic and behavioral interventions


Attend bi-weekly (Fall Semester) and monthly (Spring Semester) PLC meetings with school site staff


Write behavior support plans and support teachers with implementation


Consult and collaborate with students, parents, staff, administrators and community agencies


Communicate program requirements and professional interests to be fulfilled during internship


Arrange well in advance for any time off


Show independence and initiative in work ethic


Keep supervisors informed of projects for University coursework and any unusual circumstances or special needs


Be organized, anticipate changes, and plan ahead to manage time efficiently


Sign and adhere to district Code of Ethics and Sexual Harassment policies


Professional Development for Interns


Specific training for the interns will be provided on the following:


Development of skills within the 10 NASP Domains


Training teachers and staff on implementation of various academic and behavioral interventions


Training teachers and staff to collect data, progress monitor, and make data-based decisions


Implementing Tier 1 & 2 Interventions as pilots for schools to replicate in classrooms


Using alternative and Curriculum Based Assessments in psycho-educational evaluations for special education


Assist administrators in implementing the SSPT process on campus. Work to facilitate fidelity to the SSPT process.


Crisis Intervention training


Additional supervision will be provided through:


Regular individual supervision meetings with site supervisors


Regular group supervision meetings with training on:

• Guest speakers for domestic violence, gang interventions, grief support, teen parenting, etc.

• Conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and writing Behavior Support Plans (BSP)

• Assessing ELL students

• Using alternative measures and training in the administration of curriculum based assessments to write psycho-educational evaluations

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS


Must be enrolled in a NASP-accredited graduate school program for School Psychology


If part-time, interns must be available to complete no less than 2 days/week with Bright Star Schools.

Full-time interns must be available to complete 4-5 days/week.


Eligible for the PPS Internship Credential


Must have written a complete psycho-educational report


COMPENSATION


This is a paid hourly position.
