Summer Internship with the Health Advocacy Project

North Carolina Justice Center is the state’s leading research and advocacy organization dedicated to transforming North Carolina’s prosperity into opportunity for all. Our staff includes researchers, community educators and coordinators, litigators, public policy advocates and communication specialists who work across a broad range of issues that impact the lives of families who earn low to moderate incomes.


The Health Advocacy Project (HAP), a project of the NC Justice Center, is seeking a part-time Digital Media Advocacy Intern to advance the project’s digital communications efforts and social media strategy as the team works collaboratively on community and coalition capacity building, public education, engagement and policy advocacy in key areas of the state.


Objective: Educate and engage North Carolinians about the benefits of Medicaid expansion by delivering useful and appealing online content.


Work Tasks:

  • Brainstorm, plan and create content for social media
  • Follow news on Medicaid expansion and related topics
  • Research and develop an inventory of effective health policy social media accounts and work with the team to create a social media campaign
  • Participate in weekly team meetings
  • Align social media content to current legislative actions and priorities
  • Design graphics as needed in alignment with the HAP/JC brand


Qualifications:

  • A desire to make a difference in NC and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity; general knowledge of digital publishing and social media #bestpractices and familiarity with scheduling software, Hootsuite
  • Superior written skills
  • Well organized with ability to work independently while supporting the work of others in a fast-paced, project-oriented organization
  • Graphic design and/or video editing – a plus


Compensation:

Because we are a non-profit organization entirely dependent on grants and donations, we encourage you to apply for funding through your school and to explore other funding opportunities. Limited funding will be available from the Justice Center.
