The Recreation Tech Resource Assistant will spend their days in beautiful national forest land working with seasoned professionals to gain the experience needed to jumpstart your career. Recreation resource assistants through MobilizeGreen are responsible for the day to day duties of caring for National FOrest Land. You will be spending your days in the outdoors, doing a variety of tasks including but not limited to trail maintenance, recreation use planning, patrolling and maintaining campgrounds, interacting with visitors, and so much more. In addition, you will learn the critical skills needed for administrative components of these positions, diversifying your experience and preparing you for a lifelong career!

MobilizeGreen is a national nonprofit committed to jumpstarting green careers for diverse youth and recent graduates, while advancing environmental equity in communities across the country. We are currently recruiting for several Recreation positions!  

In partnership with the USDA Forest Service, MobilizeGreen offers internship opportunities for college students (graduating before April 12, 2021), graduate students, and recent graduates. The Resource Assistants Program (RAP) provides flexible internship placements based in National Forests across the US for those interested in Forest Service careers. Resource Assistants work under the mentorship and coaching of Forest Service staff to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills. The RAP was designed for emerging professionals to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. 

Each MobilizeGreen Resource Assistant starts their journey with a weeklong orientation, where they will meet other RAs and Forest Service staff from across the country and engage in skill building and career development activities. Once an RA arrives at their host site, they are supervised and mentored by a variety of Forest Service staff, engaging with experts from business, conservation, and science backgrounds, and learning more about careers as they work on vital projects within the Forest Service. Upon completion of the program, RAs receive a 2-year direct hiring certificate with the Forest Service, keeping the door open for exciting career opportunities with their host site, or with any of the 154 national forests across the country. MobilizeGreen will enhance your career opportunities, introduce you to key leaders in the natural resource field, and engage you on your career journey to a job with the Forest Service.

Position Title: Fourteeners Tech Resource Assistant

Position Location: Pike and San Isabel National Forests Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands

Position Code: R2.PIK.FOU

Position Abstract: The Colorado Fourteeners Program works in partnership with more than 20 organizations annually to perform trail construction, maintenance, and restorations on 49 of Colorado's 54 14,000 foot mountains on or accessed through NFS lands. The 2020 program of work includes five fixed-site trail construction & restoration projects on Mt. Elbert (two routes on Colorado's highest peak), Mt. Columbia, Kit Carson Peak, and Pikes Peak. The position would assist the program manager in previewing & monitoring these projects with partnering organizations throughout the field season to ensure compliance with NEPA decisions and construction/restoration design. In addition, the technician will work with the program manager to design trail construction/restoration & reconstruction projects on five mountains (Pikes Peak, Castle Peak, Mt. Shavano/Mt. Tabeguache, and Mt. Princeton). Exploration for out-year projects will occur on Mt. Lindsey & Snowmass Mountain. 

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Preference for a degree in a Natural Resource related field.


Position Title: River Ranger Resource Assistant

Position Location: Klamath National Forest (Local applicants preferred)

Position Code: R5.KLA.RIV

Position Abstract: The position is located within the US Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region on the Klamath National Forest. The Resource Assistant (RA) will participate in the Forest's whitewater recreation program for the Wild and Scenic Klamath River. The RA will develop Class III whitewater boating skills and assist the Forest's river manager with implementation of the program: annual maintenance and resource protection measures at 17 river access sites and numerous river beaches along the Klamath River; delivery of whitewater boating safety information and leave no trace principles to non-commercial boaters; river patrols to monitor the on-river operations of 33 outfitter guides with special use permits on the Klamath River; monitor and remove invasive weed populations along the river; and communicate information to the public on annual river access restrictions in observance of Karuk Tribal ceremonies along the river. 

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree or bachelor's degree required. Degree in outdoor recreation management, environmental studies, natural resource management or a related program is preferred.


Position Title: Recreation and Special Uses Resource Assistant 

Position Location: Eldorado National Forest

Position Code: R5.ELD.RSU

Position Abstract:  The Recreation Assistant will work on recreation management on the Amador Ranger District, Eldorado National Forest. The RA will work and/or assist on recreation management related tasks. Tasks include patrolling developed and dispersed camping areas, performing minor maintenance of campgrounds facilities, trailheads, OHV areas, and visitor contact. trail maintenance, fee collection, and patrolling wilderness areas.

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree required, bachelor's degree preferred in Recreation or Natural Resources.


Position Title: Recreation Resource Assistant

Position Location: Plumas National Forest

Position Code: R5.PLU.REC2

Position Abstract: The Recreation Resource Assistant (RA) will work on recreation management with the Mt. Hough and Beckwourth Ranger Districts. Duties will include assisting with operation and maintenance of developed and dispersed recreation sites; providing information and education to the public on safety, regulations, and resource protection; assisting in trail maintenance activities; inspecting recreation areas, areas of concentrated public use, and special use permits for compliance with the permit and management plans, public health regulations, and safety plans; and assisting in patrols of district recreation sites and areas to ensure that use is in accordance with recreation plans and regulations.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Recreation, or a conservation-related degree required.


Position Title: Recreation and Wilderness Resource Assistant

Position Location: Los Padres National Forest

Position Code: R5.LOS.REC

Position Abstract: The RA will participate supporting the Recreation and Wilderness program, working on a portfolio of tasks including recreation and wilderness program support for trails, special uses including concessionaire, interpretation, public contacts, volunteers, sign maintenance, visitor services, stock program and planning including NEPA support. The successful candidate will be highly organized and able to effectively multi-task.  

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in natural resource management or related field.


Position Title: Recreation Resource Assistant 

Position Location: Angeles National Forest

Position Code: R5.ANG.REC

Position Abstract: The RA will participate in helping to maintain and enhance recreational areas and developed sites, with responsibility for planning and executing maintenance projects using a variety of tools and methods. The RA will also staff visitor centers and special events with a focus on providing interpretive and visitor information. 

Education Qualifications: Has or in the process of earning an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Recreation or a conservation-related field.


Position Title: Wilderness Stewardship Resource Assistant

Position Location: Inyo National Forest

Position Code: R5.INY.WLD

Position Abstract: The Wilderness Stewardship Resource Assistant will participate in the forest wide wilderness management program working with wilderness rangers, district wilderness managers, and forest resource specialists. Work will focus on collecting information for Forest Service Wilderness Stewardship Performance measures, evaluating that information, and helping to produce documentation of current conditions and recommended changes to management. The RA will spend about half of their time in Inyo National Forest wildernesses collecting data and about half of their time working in an office setting working with forest resource specialists.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Recreation, Natural Resources, or a related field preferred.


Position Title: Recreation Resource Assistant 

Position Location: Plumas National Forest

Position Code: R5.PLU.REC1

Position Abstract: The Resource Assistant will participate in a portfolio of tasks in support of the developed recreation and special uses on the Plumas National Forest, including providing visitor information and education, conducting inspections of recreation sites, and assisting with trail maintenance. There may also be opportunities to cross discipline boundaries and sample work in the field of trails, botany, wildlife, archaeology, and/or fuels management. 

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree required, bachelor's degree preferred. 


Position Title: Forestry Resource Assistant

Position Location: Plumas National Forest

Position Code: R5.KLA.FOR

Position Abstract: The Resource Assistant will be assigned a variety of complex and recurring technical duties in support of the unit's various natural resource management program areas, including timber/silviculture, recreation, wildlife, range, soils/watershed, and fire/fuels management. In addition, this position provides work direction for Youth Conservation Corps Enrollees (COVID-dependent). The incumbent operates as instructor and leader in conservation work projects for up to 5 enrollees. 

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required.


Position Title: Recreation Resource Assistant Intern

Position Location: ARP, Boulder Ranger District, Boulder, CO

Position Code: R2.ARP.REC

Position Abstract: The RA will assist in a variety of recreation management functions as they relate to district planning and operations, partnership development, and field implementation in the following program areas: Developed and dispersed recreation, trails, Wilderness, and a variety of recreation special uses, including outfitter and guides and recreation events. RA assignments will be project-oriented and the RA will gain the necessary skills for future career opportunities in the Forest Service as part of their internship.

Education Qualifications:Degree requirement: Recent graduate (0-5 years) with degree in Outdoor Recreation or Natural Resources field from an accredited educational institution.


Position Title: Information Specialist

Position Location: Rocky Mountain Regional Office

Position Code: R2.ROC.INF

Position Abstract: This position will provide the RA with a career-oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, and scope of the Forest Service Physical Sciences functions and a practical understanding of the policies of the Forest Service. RA assignments will be project-oriented. The RA also will gain the necessary skills for future career opportunities in the Physical Science field as part of their internship.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources or Information Systems required.


Position Title: Recreation Resource Assistant

Position Location: Mendocino National Forest

Position Code: R5.MEN.REC

Position Abstract: The RA will participate in the recreation program assisting district recreation staff with grant and agreement administration, special uses administration, recreation site maintenance, recreation utilization analysis, wilderness and trails management/maintenance, and youth engagement programs. In addition, assist District Ranger and Support Services Staff with administrative duties. 

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree required. Degree in Recreation, Education, or a Natural Resource related field preferred.
