The Thinkubator is a newly formed nonprofit organization focused on elevating and bringing power to youth voice. The Thinkubator exists to train, educate, and connect youth to work-based learning experiences, employment, and educational opportunities. Youth are connected to  businesses, nonprofits, elected officials, and government to partake in our US democracy and impact change. We seek to prepare diverse, low-income youth from the Bronx to succeed in the workplace and the world. The Thinkubator aspires to a world where young people from the Bronx are trained, educated, and powered to bring their voice to business, organizational, societal, and world challenges. Critical to our work is impacting public policy. 

About the Role

The Thinkubator’s Research and Policy intern will play a critical role in supporting the development and incubation of a research center focused on the study of the Bronx. The intern will contribute to The Thinkubator  and partner organization’s  policy agenda, research, communications, events and administrative activities. Interns will engage in all areas of The Thinkubator’s operations and work directly with The Thinkubator’s Team and partners on a wide variety of projects and topics. Interns will have a unique opportunity to contribute to policy and education efforts impacting Bronx’s economic growth, youth, and workforce development system. The successful candidate must be a self-starter with a background in urban and public policy.  Excellent research and writing skills, as well the ability to handle multiple tasks under short deadlines, are essential qualities. Current graduate student, or recent graduates.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited, to the following:

  • Assist the leadership of The Thinkubator and partners on the conceptualization of the research center; 
  • Work with Dr. Lessie Branch, Director of The Think Tank and partners to build a research agenda for the center; 
  • Develop surveys, collect and analyze data, and write reports and briefing memos;  
  • Conduct policy research and undertake education campaign;  
  • Work with The Thinkubator Team on updating website for the research center and social media as necessary; 
  • Assist with events and outreach efforts
  • Manage partner request for surveys and data collection;
  • Monitor scholarship, reports, and  online conversations on issue areas of concern for The Thinkubator and partners; and
  • Support administrative and operations activities.

will run through December 2021 or May 2022. You will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week and apply for your institution’s credit bearing internship courses to receive academic credit for this experience. Our required hours will depend on the amount of internship hours required to complete your internship.  Funding is very limited as we are a startup nonprofit organization. We will revisit  funding opportunities in November 2021. 


Please note: This position is based in The Bronx, NY. In response to COVID-19, The Thinkubator staff are temporarily teleworking. Once the office reopens, the person hired for this

position will work in The Thinkubator’s office in Bronx, NY or Poughkeepsie, NY.
